The U.S. Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) 2025 mission, in collaboration with Guyana’s Ministry of Health, yesterday began a two-week medical engagement in five locations in Guyana.
A release from the US Embassy said that the mission aims to build partnerships, provide additional capacity and support to medical facilities and improve the collective ability to meet complex global health challenges. This is the second LAMAT mission.

The release said that the Ministry of Health will host a team of 60 US Army and Air Force doctors, nurses and technicians as they collaborate with medical professionals in Guyana to provide a range of medical and dental treatments to patients.

Ironically the visit comes amid strong pressure by the US on CARICOM countries over their use of Cuban medical teams on the grounds that the government in Havana is engaged in labour exploitation.

Ali better be careful though.

It wasn't so long ago that their neighbors, Venezuela, were the glaze on the US donuts.

All performative and will not be long-lasting nor endearing. "They'll stab yuh in the back if they think you're not looking" BOB MARLEY from the song Want More.
By the way that Chune both recorded and live has one of the best solo guitar pieces ever recorded in any Genre. Live, listen both AlAnderson and Don Kinsey ('76)

I think it was that war criminal Henry Kissinger who once said "it is dangerous to be an enemy of America, but it is fatal to be a friend of America."

............

I am seeing so many responses...yet

Can some of you say how many of these workers you have met and invited to your home and engaged in conversation with them?

I did in Belmont; they lived at the end of the street, and one doctor saw a relative limping and offered medical advice to come to his office.

He replaced her knee and would visit with a few of his colleagues. PM Young pays a visit to the patient (replacement knee)

They had to make excuses to visit as they were closely monitored by Cubans.

Neither Cuba nor Trinidad and Tobago were paradises for them.

Poorly paid, living in substandard apartments, they were not allowed to mingle with the T&T population , restricted travel, a lonely life, etc.

So when I read the BS posted here ...amazing.evil

It seems that in Jamaica the Cuban doctors and nurses were not restricted as per your claims.

I know Cubans who have fled Cuba and are now Jamaican citizens. They all want economic and social change for Cuba and cuss their government.

However they all agree that the US claims of forced labour of cuban doctors and nurses are BULL SHIT.

Also I know a Cuban Nurse who worked in Antigua for about 3 years and she made the most money she had ever made in her life.

She had no regrets whatsoever.

I met 6 of them a year ago in T&T; none told of what you noted above.
The stress showed , living away for Cuba.

One would think one would have said something differently.

They are rotated every year to a different country.
