In this insular territory

The best thing to do is to rotate the captaincy. First test in Barbados, make a Bajan the captain. Second test in Grenada, call back Fletcher or Devon Smith to captain. Third test in Jamaica, appoint Campbell. Do the same in all formats, and to ensure everything is equal, from now on, start all series either north in Jamaica, and move downwards, or south in Guyana, and move upwards until every country gets a game. No need for strategic planning and goals as Darren Sammy alluded to at the press conference. In this region, where insularity is the order of the day, any strategic decision would offend somebody, so abandon that, and give everybody a game. It is so sad, that after the decision was made, not one quality analysis came about as to why this may have been done. There may be very strategic and genuine reasons for the decision. Sammy said it was a hard decision, and he had a talk with Powell on the matter. He claimed that it was part of a longer term plan. Do they just get up one morning and decide to drop a guy because he is from a particular territory?

A couple years ago, I viewed Powell captaining the Jamaica team in the 50 over tournament. I was thrilled with how his batting lifted under the pressures of captaincy, and i anticipated his promotion to captaincy of the regional team at some stage. i was happy at his appointment when it came, but i do not believe his personal game has lifted sufficiently over the period. he would make the team now, only because he is captain. meanwhile, Shai Hope has emerged as our best both ODI and T20 batsman, and it is in the interest of WI cricket to have one white ball captain. Meanwhile, Powell has the option of competing for his spot, and i know he has the ability to lift his game if he wishes. he needs to play more of the longer version. I repeat, Shai Hope is our best T20 batsman.

Sir I think you may very well be unto something worth trying. Only then would we be rid of that very popular word Insularity and Passport from this board. There is simply no other way of making the Rock Men happy.
