Blackwood - he is nothing special so how (and who) could he disappoint?
Paint - quite mediocre so nothing disappointing there.
Athanaze - yes, would have expected more from him.
McKenzie - for someone who held his own in Australia, he has certainly failed to build on that platform.
Brian Charles - nothing shocking about his performance.
Kevin Sinclair - see Blackwood.
Hayden Walsh Jr - somewhat disappointing.

Jermaine Blackwood is not somebody I was expecting much from, to be honest. That said, to average mid-20s is poor for a batsman of such experience.

Although half his runs came in one knock, Brathwaite still managed around 400 runs at an average in the mid-40s. His season should have been better though, without doubt.

Alick Athanaze is probably the most disappointing for me - 230 runs, just a solitary fifty and an average in the 20s is not what the returns of a potential new captain (in some quarters it is the opinion) should look like. The manner of some of his dismissals was also very disappointing.

Kirk McKenzie had every chance to work his way back into contention for a place in the top of the order for the West Indies test team. Apart from a decent century against Guyana at Sabina Park, he was poor, very poor.

Charles took 15 wickets at an average markedly higher than he usually does, so I can see why the original poster was perhaps expecting more from a player who should, at the age of 29, now be in his prime.

Kevin Sinclair is a talented cricketer but I feel he is still finding out what type of cricketer he will be. In the last two years or so, he has tried to become more of a batting all-rounder. For this to happen, he needs much better returns than figures that are very similar to those of Alick Athanaze, i.e. very disappointing.

Walsh is a white ball player and will likely never be anything more than that. I was not expecting much if anything from him.

Kavem Hodge, Amir Jangoo & Keacy Carty also had disappointing regional tournaments. Their figures are almost identical in that each of them mustered just over 300 runs at an average of 31. Simply not good enough for test players.

Personally, I was hoping for a better performance from young Matthew Nandu. He again showed promise but his failure to convert any of his three half centuries into a ton blighted what could have been a break out season. For me, he stands a chance of being involved in the future if he can start to convert.

Brandon King was billed as being a red ball savior. Sadly, his mediocre returns have proven otherwise.

Zachary McCaskie will know he should have done much better than his lowly showing, as will the talented teenager Jordan Johnson.

Following last year's strong showing, Jeremiah Louis will be feeling disappointed at his returns this season (4 wickets in 3 matches).

Agreed with Stumpy and 4RQ. Jeremiah Louis and Keacy Carty (who to be fair picked up a bit towards the end) would be disappointed. I did not expect much of McCaskie or Jordan J who so far has just had a flash in the pan tour of the Far East and no follow up. He needs to get into the WIA to strengthen his game. As for Jangoo, I do not think that he is a natural No 3 batsman and may have suffered from playing in that position. It is still strange that Goolie did not play out the entire season and was used as an opener and a lower order batsman in 2 of his 3 matches when his more natural position for TT is No. 3 with Jangoo, JaMo and Josh to follow. Maybe in the future, QPO will have a Four Js stand!big grin

Yes, Wickham is on the list of disappointing for sure.

I see your point! But it is Permaul, not Persaud who is not even playing for Guyana at this point.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul only played three games, failing in one but doing well in the other two. He finished with 190 runs at an average of nearly 50.

All the batters except Louis, in the top 5 than went to Pakistan disappointed. One would expect that after playing in the difficult conditions in Pakistan the returning batters would have an easy time in the Caribbean. Apart from them, I never expected much from Blackwood, Walsh, MaCaskie, MaCallister, McKensie, Johnson and Jeremiah Louis. Mckensie and Johnson are still developing their games, all the others are not that good at this time of their careers.
