...people. while I don't like stereotypes but here I refer to Filipinos. I work with, worship with and actually have quite a few friendships, but overwhelmingly, with those I associate, they will take medical advice from a white painter over that of a black doctor. Guess who their favorite NBA players are? You guessed right Jokic, Luka and AR....see a pattern? And of course they are desperate to suggest that Luka is the reason the Lakers were not in the play-in tourney this year, of course in an attempt elevate Luka over Lebron.

I am trying to understand this propensity of non-white cultures to fall prostrate before their former ensalvers....moverover the apparent dislike/ disdain for African descendants is palpable..I am honestly seeking understanding here. Where I live there are lots of Haitians and Filipinos.....and the disdain for the Haitians is well known. Not gonna lie, it bothers me. One theory is that its all about money...ie they try to associate with who they feel can improve their financial circumstances? never mind they come to work in country that is run by Afro Caribbean people. They are largely employed by the private sector though...large resorts and high end villas mosty owned by white folk.

I understand that it is an uncomfortable conversation but I had an interaction this morning a Fiulipino barista who I think is a good guy but the conversation was about the NBA and this guy was just glorifying the white players and trying to downplay some of the black stars. I see the same sort of deference to white folks and mere tolerance of black folk in the corporate space too.

Sadly, I agree.

They are also overwhelmingly MAGA. Don't know how MAGA benefits them, especially those living here in the Caribbean, but they seem desperate for the association.sad

Bro I am trying to figure it out with more than a few fellow folks of African descent like myself.
The brainwashing appears to be widespread and comprehensive.

Indeed. Trying to keep an open mind about it by seeking understanding of what goes on in the human brain.

Of all the things that DJT has done though re black people, I thought the Central Park 5 situation and the illegal immigrants taking 'black jobs' comment would have been insulting enough for ALL black people to say NAH!!! But even that didn't seem to create any concerns for some. I struggle with it for real.

I think I have understimated the power of right wing social media bombardment on X, Quora etc.

I have never seen this type of behaviour from fillipinos but then they are not homogenous people they are a mixture of many diferent ethnicities that passed through those islands.you have dark skin to light skin some are more asian looking others are less.and some look african

But the ones i know have told me that the 500 years of spanish rule and then the american rule .imprinted a colonial mindset that favoured european culture and whiteness over any other .

I seem to remember you - it must have been you - saying something similar recently. Could you expand on this subject - how many people/incidents are you talking about?

If I raised this before, I don't remember.

But, I've seen it enough to pick up what looks like a trend. Of course there are exceptions, but the experiences have been mounting.
