The Jamaican presence in Canada is overwhelmingly strong, Jamaican Canadians comprise about 30% of the entire Black Canadian population. That is about 309,485 or about 0.9% of the entire Canadian population. We do not need a visa for we are already here. big grinbig grin

What that says is that the performance of the ones in Canada have made it difficult for their fellow country men back home.

Is that also the case with Guyana and Barbados?

If you saw the presentation, two of the key elements for the countries that they allow VISA-free travel are “low over stay rates” and “illegal immigration risks.”

From those 2 parameters it seems as if the countries not invited for VISA-free travel have a track record of those violations.

Can Guyanese or Bajans dispute those findings that camos is trying to find the answer to?

Needless to say it is well known in Canada, that there are Jamaicans contributing in almost every aspect of Canadian life, they are politicians, lawyers, doctors, nurses, teachers, civil servants, tradesmen and a wide array of various professions and industries. Of course, like other islands, there are the usual societal non-contributors. However, there are so many Canadians awards are given out annually to the Jamaican contribution to the society. Jamaicans won a few track and field gold medals for Canada. If you come to Canada and attempt to scam the Canadian government with a medical disability, then you will have to deal with me. big grin

This is why we do not need any visas:

Jamaica is by far the largest source country for immigrants from the Caribbean, followed by Haiti (99,940), Trinidad and Tobago (65,040) and Cuba (19,545).

Over one in three Black people living in Canada today have Jamaican roots.

Although the overwhelming majority of Jamaicans who immigrate to Canada are Black, Jamaica prides itself on its multiracial heritage, which is reflected in the national motto "Out of Many, One People."

The facts are that a large number of Jamaicans enter Canada as Permanent Residents and those who enter Canada as University/College students or Skilled/Professional Workers are placed on a pathway for permanent residency and citizenship. There are also a minority of persons who overstayed their issued visas and ended up living as illegal immigrants but many managed to navigate the system towards permanent residency.
Get this picture in your minds, there are overwhelmingly more Jamaicans living in Canada than the entire population of Barbados.

Understandably, the Caribbean has contributed immensely to the Canadian society but again we are allowing others to divide and rule us, of which some gleefully take satisfaction. Meanwhile many Jamaicans experience personal sacrifices to open the way in Canada not only for other Jamaicans but also for other Caribbean islands. There actually a book which chronicles the experiences of many Jamaicans back in the earlier days of Canadian history.

My grandparents came to Canada in 1948 and established businesses in Ontario and Quebec.
They were born in T&T. Very few Black people were around then; when they saw one, they stared at each other.lol
I took it to another level, and we are a private multinational in a few countries worldwide.

I commend your parents for their pioneering and enterprising spirit in helping to lead the way for others but the Jamaican Maroons were perhaps the first set of people to be forcefully immigrated into Canada. Of course, during this colonial era, they suffered many personal hardship and some elected to be relocated to Sierra Leone. I once visited the Africville Museum of Afro-Canadian History in Nova Scotia, they proudly displayed the Jamaican Maroons.
