Jalen Brunson will be the NY Knicks GOAT by the time he retires. I feel sorry for Thompson though. That game-winning shot will haunt him for a while.

Brunson is the best point guard in the NBA, absent the flashy play and the diva-ness, he knows how to win. Two NCAA Championships does nothing to dispel this notion. He is a coach on the court and he makes Coach Tibs look better than he actually is.

You are a Thibs hater? smile Thibs will be the Knicks coach as long as Brunson wants him there. Remember, Brunson's dad is a Knicks assistant coach.

Cogent observation, just hope the team reward him with a good long term contract. I don’t think Knicks really knew what they were getting when they got him from the Dallas Mavericks. Boston will be a tough haul

Have to agree with you. Thibs can get his teams just so far in the playoffs then his stubbornness put an end to that.

I disagree. The Knicks knew exactly what they were getting. Not only is Brunson's father a Knicks assistant coach, the Knicks GM is Jalen Brunson's former agent.

They got lucky because the most clutch player in the NBA made a 3 to close out a 4-2 series win?

they got lucky because they should have gone into this game down 3 -2 instead of the other way around

The no-call at the end of game 4 was poetic justice at the Pistons played like they were in the NFL instead of the NBA and the refs let them get away with it. Plus Tobias Harris was out of bounds when he touched the ball that ended up in Beasley's hands for the final shot. That series would have been over in 5 games if Brunson had not been playing on a bum ankle all series smile

That’s what I get for parroting what Mike Breen the play-by-play announcer, and Knicks legend Walt "Clyde" Frazier said in one of their broadcast…anyway, wholeheartedly agreed with them…and I wont backdownsmilewink

I'm not backing down either lol I'm sticking with the father and Agent GM. By the way, can you believe the Mavs got rid of Brunson and Luka in the space of 3 years???

Luka i can somewhat understand. i read he is a guy who dances only to his own tune,
Brunson’s average with the mavs was 11.9 points, 3.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 277 games for the Mavericks in his career…for the Knicks its 26.4 points per game
as they say in horse racing - there are courses for horses...Brunson seem to have found his course, track that suits his style.....and maybe nepotism has its place - in Brunson's case - its not maybe

The Knicks had no idea Brunson would be that good. His father, Rick, only came to the Knicks after it was obvious that Jalen would become a Knick. Both arrived in 2022. I have followed Jalen since his senior year in high school, and his cerebral basketball play belies his age. He is a rarity in the game, and that he was coached by Jay Wright, one of the greatest exponents of basketball fundamentals at Villanova was a bonus for Jalen. Outside of the Wright and Jalen, no one saw this coming.

Of course his dad would know, he coached him in his formative years. He's a dad however. Knicks didn't bring Jalen in thinking he would be who is he, that is what I am saying.

To be sure, Brunson in Dallas was not the same as Brunson in NY, but his dad and agent (now Knicks GM) knew what he could become. I don't think they are shocked by what they are seeing - maybe a little surprised smile

By the way, I don't think the Bulls knew what Michael Jordan would become when they drafted him. In fact, thanks in part to North Carolina coach Dean Smith's system, Portland thought Sam Bowie would be a better NBA player than Jordan.

Ture, however, that was during the "grab a big (center) era". Bowie, Stipanovich were recipients of high ratings in part due to the "big man" era.

The league still likes big centers, but the ones they like now can play facing the basket and shoot threes.

Brunson was mostly a bench player in Dallas, but he broke out as a starter in the 2022 playoffs and averaged 21 ppg. The rest is history as they say

Both Dallas (Brunson) and Philadelphia (Bridges) made big mistakes trading away these two players. Perhaps New Orleans (Hart) as well. These 3 players were expertly prepared for the NBA.
