Cops raid TTCB head office, documents seized in missing $$ probe

OFFICERS of the Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) head office in Balmain, Couva, on May 8, and left with some financial documents that might assist them with a matter concerning a former employee’s misappropriation of funds.Over four police vehicles were observed in the carpark of the Alloy Lequay Administration Centre as early as 9 am, as officers spent over five hours conducting investigations.

TTCB president Azim Bassarath confirmed police went through some of their financials, and other documents and were very cordial in executing their duty.“This was in connection with ongoing matter where the employee had misappropriated the money,” Bassarath said.“We always said the matter was reported to the police and they have now simply started their investigations.”This SIU investigation is a result of the board’s former treasurer reporting to police in late 2023, that an approximate sum of $500,000 was misappropriated by an employee. The employee has since resigned. The treasurer was eventually removed from his executive post in January 2024 after the board moved a vote of no confidence against him.

He appealed the decision but lost on the grounds that he breached his duty of confidentiality by reporting the matter to the police before TTCB completed its internal investigations, while also sharing information from an executive meeting with the media.Bassarath said he was unaware the SIU would be paying them a visit on May 8, but with the ongoing investigations, he was expecting their investigations to continue. He also confirmed that the officers made no prior request for documents.Bassarath arrived at TTCB’s head office at 11.45 am and was not present when officers initially arrived.

..........

T&TCB can do as the previous Minister of Finance did: a computer error.
We were changing the system when 2.5 million went unaccounted for.

You know he was a road worker 2...cutting grass and cleaning drains in Penal.

Dinas and Ganga didn't like Murray as T&TCB president and worked to get this moron elected.

They have regretted every moment since.

Since Murray left , look at the decline in T&T cricket.

This is the second time allegations of misappropriating funds have occurred.

He is now arse kissing Kamla after allegations of trying or wanting to run for a PNM councillor position.

He threatened to sue me over 10 years ago; my lawyers in Toronto were waiting for his brief. He didnt.

His lawyers are like Sodden small claims paralegals...razz

Yes, the raid was too late, but the allegations are that he is PNM...

The individual that was fired still got all the documents.

It's in his brief logged in High Court.

It should be interesting to see what happens.

TTCB must be dismantled and a new body put in place with a proper constitution.

Cops seize substantial quantity of TTCB documents in fraud probe

THE police have seized "a substantial quantity of documents" from the office of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) in Balmain, Couva. The seizure took place on May 8 after a search warrant was executed by WPC Augustine Henry during a probe into alleged fraud-related offences in the local governing body. The exercise was co-ordinated by Deputy CoP Suzette Martin and supervised by acting Asst Supt StanleyOfficers from the Special Investigations Unit carried out the operation.

In a media release on May 9, police said the search was conducted in the presence of the TTCB administrative manager and TTCB president Azim Bassarath. The latter was not present when at least four police vehicles arrived around 9 am. Bassarath arrived at the TTCB office around 11.45 am.The search lasted around five hours and documents "believed to be of evidential value" were taken.Bassarath told Newsday the search was in relation the $500,000 allegedly misappropriated by a TTCB employee who no longer works at the organsiation. Former TTCB treasurer Kiswah Chaitoo raised a red flag about the missing money in late 2023 and reported the matter to the police.

He was later removed by the TTCB after a vote of no confidence was passed. He was accused of breaching his duty of confidentiality by reporting the matter to the police before the TTCB had conducted its own investigation, and also sharing sensitive information with the media.

He and I had many discussions; I told him he is an idiot .

One can become president if you purchase enough bottles of rum for the country bwoys.

Dinas doesn't drink, so he is an outsider...he cannot win.
