"The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders," the BCCI further said.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal earlier stated that any further decisions would be made in consultation with the government. "We are reviewing the situation. It's evolving, and we haven't received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping all logistical considerations and the best interests of stakeholders in mind," Dhumal had said.

In the aftermath of the escalated tensions between India and Pakistan and the subsequent suspension of IPL 2025, South African Cricketers' Association and Cricket Australia have expressed concerns regarding safety of their players who were partaking in the league

"The health and safety of players is not negotiable. We are in direct contact with all the South African players at the IPL and keeping them updated with security reports. We have offered them any support they need," Andrew Breetzke, the chief executive of the South African Cricketers' Association, said.

In a statement on Friday, Cricket Australia echoed those thoughts, saying: "We continue to closely monitor the situation in Pakistan and India, including obtaining regular advice and updates from the Australian Government, the PCB, BCCI and local government authorities, and maintaining communication with our players and support staff currently in the region."

Just hours before the said escalations, Cricket West Indies also issued a release stating that it was in touch with both BCCI and PCB to take stock of the situation

IPL 2025 restart hinges on government nod, BCCI to consult stakeholders in next 48 hours

At the time of reporting, there was no information of any franchise management contacting their overseas players. This website spoke to representatives of multiple franchises, who shared similar views - all indicating they would wait for more clarity and specific dates before recalling their foreign players. Most overseas cricketers, though, are believed to be willing to return if the league resumes within a week. Some overseas players, of course, have not left the shores as yet and they may be asked to stay put.
