Shiv will never be rated as high as others who have similar numbers to him because of the way he made his runs. He will be considered like how English opener Woods is considered.

A good Test batter.
Lots of weaknesses which got exposed later in this career. A rather mediocre Test average to be consider in the "great" category.

Would you also say that if he had to face the likes of Ambi/Walsh, Waqar/Wasim/, McGrath/Warne etc. on 90's era Test pitches he would have averaged about 35 - at best?

Playing 3 formats have taken its toll
And the time to go is now
There are so many young batting turks are coming out in Indian cricket. We have seen many of these young turks in IPL 2025...the thing is many of these young turks are also playing Ranji Cup FC cricket and doing well.
