This is 2025, not 1900, Every team sport is led by a manager or HC, not an on-field captain.
It is time for cricket to move the duties of a captain.

Sammy is a modern coach who offers real-time information and actionable insights. You are all living in the past, like in the 1970s. Do you believe that India and Australia don't provide real-time information to their captains?

When you were listening to cricket on the radio, you were muted; not everyone watching live has informed opinions.

So this was just a way to get Chase in the team because nothing has changed since he averaged 17 with the bat and just under 50 with the ball in the 4 years prior to him getting dropped from the test team.

Now just like that…..,he’s captain and can’t be dropped.

I agree with you on the coach part regarding selection.

The head coach should be chief selector.

The “official selectors” are really scouts whose job should be to provide recommendation to the head coach.

The captain in cricket is in a unique situation in sport.

His primary responsibility comes when the team is in the field. He is in control of who bowls, when, how much, and field setting.

The head coach’s role when the team is in the field is to collaborate with the captain and on field brain trust to talk strategy and adjustments during breaks. There are water breaks and regularly scheduled breaks for lunch and tea which are more than sufficient to discuss these things.

ON THE FIELD THE CAPTAIN IS IN CHARGE.

It is not baseball.

It is not American football

It is not hockey

It is not basketball.

Being in the field as a captain in those team sports is not like being in the field in cricket.

So I disagree with what you advocate regarding the role of captain in cricket.

Cricket may be the last sport to have video and analysis, which gives fans some knowledge of the game in real time.
Your knowledge of Justin Greaves is not how many runs he was scoring, it was his stroke play to Kraigg's.
Kraigg was scoring double the runs of Justin at the time.
Justin scored 4 FC tons, Kriagg 33 FC tons.
The HC is not the chief selector, open your eyes, bro.
India and Australia are already utilizing all the technology available to them, whereas UWI is still wishing and hoping
