You win the toss and put the opposition in
400 runs later = not bright

Bowler management, here I have some sympathy. The paucity of quality in the attack was shocking
I will give Motie a pass. He doesn't appear to have the confidence of his skipper and was somewhat underused.

Some were so far out of their depth that it wasn't very pleasant, the wickets column flattered to deceive

Sympathy apart, the on-field management was lacking and fully exposed the idiocy of putting the opposition in; they had a net on their way to 400

The Batting lineup and order were poor, and some were not up to it, including Hope
England is cold this time of year, and it might have unsettled some of his charges, but there will need to be a massive improvement at every level

Hope alone decides .... whether to bat or field...???

Agree that utilising spinners and bowling changes were very poor...Forde and Seales combined...17 overs...170 runs...Motie and Chase combine..13 overs...76 runs...

I never said that.
Cricket is the only team sport where captains are still the on-field managers.
I do believe it should change to the modern system.

I will add that England Lions are playing India A in a series; the link is posted below.
Note the selection of many promising county prospects.

I agree his captaincy was underwhelming. If Jangoo is in the 11, Jangoo should keep so Hope can be more commanding in the field as captain. I will look at Blades to offer some variety in the pace attack. I don't think we can play both Seales and Forde. They both too easy to manipulate because of lack of speed and bounce. Shamar might be a better option. I can't see how Greaves makes the team. Hope should open.

Well, decisions have consequences, they misjudged the pitch and paid for that judgement, however, Motie should have bowled his allotment of overs, when he is not taking wickets, he tend to still be economical. Greaves might not be an opening batter at the international level, but he is an useful player in the ODI team.

The decision to bowl first and the batting order are likely team decisions and more particularly, directed by the head coach. Not the captain.

Factual yes. But not fully accurate.

Neither Motie nor Chase bowl in the power play or at the death.

There’s a big difference.

It shows that the dungheap standard is very low compared to what's required at the international level!

Looks like you think that your countryman Rovman would've fared better (if he weren't discarded by $ammy).

Either way, it was not very bright to bat first ,clapping be damned

Hindsight is 20/20

It’s clear to me where we are…….despite the protestations of team management. In a way, they have to be positive and look for silver linings.

We’re not a very good team. Our bowling in particular is average at best. We have our moments with the batting but will struggle against top teams.

It’s been that way for some time.

Well we coming off 2 350 plus innings batting first. Not batting first sent the wrong message. And the results show it.

WI, and particularly Sammy, seem to have this obsession with batting last. I do not know where they get it in their heads that WI chases well. We do not seem to handle pressure well and tend to crumble when chasing. The two innings we did well against Ireland, we lost the toss and Ireland asked us to bat first. No score board pressure and even after losing early wickets we posted huge scores. The two matches we have won't the toss on this tour, we whose to bat last and have lost big. We don't even seem to try to read the pitch. It's just an obsession with win toss bat last. I believe that was one of the issues Sammy had with Rovman because Rovman was more about choosing to bat first it if made sense to bat first and choosing to bat last when it made sense to bat last. Not just an obsession to chase all the time.
