Was Tendulkar an opener when he got a chance early on in his career when their regular opener, Prabhakar was jnhured?

How many FC matches and List A matches had Tendulkar played before opening?
Andrew has played two full seasons of regional cricket, which would be 14 matches, and you ask him to open.

Why was John Campbell selected?

He averages 4 with the bat. At this rate, I’d pick Walsh as a batsman over him.

At his age Walsh might even send down a few overs better than some of these clowns.

We have a persistent problem of forcing our talented young players on West Indies teams and as soon as they failed, we are ready to discard them. Instead we should provide them with the necessary technical training and infrastructure around to allow them to develop into world class players. We all know that young Jewel is a genuine talent, let’s invest in his talent and allow him to mature and not forced. There are lots of other players who have already matured and deserve an opportunity. But keep Jewel around the touring squad for his experience and development.

Anyone watching the IPl presentatyion aawarfs.

If so, I hope that you see a clip of Pooran hitting sizes.

Look at the bend knees, low bent back leg and the way he break his wrist in striking these sixes.
Also notice that Pooran is not on the move when playing those shots.
He moves early and remain grounded firm when striking.
Classic technique.

Jewel can learn a thing or to from this.

Tendulkar First 10 ODI matches:
0 (Pak), 0 (NZ), 36 (NZ), 10 (Sri), 20 (Pak), 19 (ENG), 31 (ENG), 36 (Sri), 53 (Sri), 30 (Sri).

In most of those matches, he batted between 5 and 7, so a much easier path than Andrew. The difference here is that India recognized talent and persisted with Tendulkar after scoring ducks in his first two matches. However, the blind folks of the West Indies want to put Andrew to the pasture because he failed in two innings.

Slipperyfella is that you? Your best post yet with no mention of Kirk Mckenzie although we know that is who you are referencing.

This kid is a talented batsman who should be groomed, coached and only selected to play test cricket when ready…. we are destroying him by doing it in reverse…. ODI, T20 then test… silly… learn to bat first ala Joe Root etal….

Ok, the kid has promise. A fair bit of publicity and high expectations even at this stage. Those were premature.

He averages 34.88 in First Class cricket with a high score of 122, after 15 matches. Contrast that with other WI youngsters' early production (Kraigg, Ronnie, Shiv, Carl, Brian), and one can say he hasn't produced at those gents level at age 18. Now, that does not mean he is not capable of becoming a great, but he needs time to hone his skills, not to be thrown into the deep-end to open. Who is the numbskull that sent him to open?

Additionally, he has to kick the door down to get into the team, not ushered in.

Let the youth develop with proper nurturing.
