I dont see a place for the WI skipper in the final 11 for today's game...unless he replaces Moti.

Narper 2025-06-06 17:03:52

England have won the toss and have opted to bat

Shai Hope
- We've a lot of experience and depth in our batting, the boys are raring to do, just want to play the brand of cricket that we're playing over the past year.

Harry Brook
- We'll have a bat. Looks like a good pitch and we will look to get a good score. Exceptional death over skills (on Brydon Carse), looking forward to his bowling. He'll bat at 3 (on Jos Buttler), hopefully he'll continue to score big runs and win us matches

Hope is skipper and Powell is playing

Narper 2025-06-06 17:31:27

Jamie Smith and Duckett are at the crease.

Jamie Smith is on strike.

Holder will open the attack

0.2
Holder to Jamie Smith, FOUR, crunched, aggression from Smith, uses his feet, comes down the pitch and drills the drive back past the bowler, beats mid-off to his right and runs away to the ropes

Some problems with the bowler footholes and we've a break

Narper 2025-06-06 17:35:29

0.3
Holder to Jamie Smith, FOUR, nicely played, on a length and just outside off - Smith leans across, brings his wrists into play and then hoists it over mid-wicket, couple of bounces and over the ropes

Shepherd to Duckett, out Caught by Shai Hope!! A top-edge and it's a sitter for Shai Hope, was the slower ball that was pushed across the left-hander, Duckett was shaping for the tuck, closed the face of the bat and it popped straight up - Shai Hope has plenty of time to settle underneath with his gloves and he completes a simple catch

7.1
Shepherd to Buttler, 1 run, to long-on
7.1
Shepherd to Buttler, wide, the slower bouncer from Shepherd, Buttler was hopping as he tried to swat it away and missed, too high and is called as a wide

Narper 2025-06-06 18:10:03

7.3
Shepherd to Jamie Smith, FOUR, cracking shot, short of a good length and well wide of off, Smith rides the bounce and then cracks it in front of square on the off-side, beats the man running across in the deep

Narper 2025-06-06 18:11:31

7.5
Shepherd to Buttler, 1 run, slower short ball outside off, pushed in front of cover for a quick single, brings up a fifty for Buttler

Jos Buttler50[25

7.6
Shepherd to Jamie Smith, out Caught by Rutherford!! Catching practice at deep mid-wicket and Shepherd has two now - back of a length and just outside off, another delivery that had pace taken off it, Buttler stayed on the front-foot as he shaped for the whippy pull, doesn't get any elevation on the shot and picks out Rutherford at deep mid-wicket, a simple catch and the dangerous stand has been broken. Four and OUT for the England captain - Chase tosses one slower and at the stumps, Brook backed away and was looking to go inside out over cover, tried to hit it too square, played inside the line and watches the ball crash into the middle-stump, couple of useful wickets as West Indies stage a fightback

11.1
Russell to Buttler, no run

Narper 2025-06-06 18:30:05

GWN !!!!!!!!!!!

Russell to Tom Banton, out Lbw!! Tom Banton has been given OUT LBW, looked straight to the naked eye, he reviews though, only height can save him. Shuffled across and missed a straight ball, pinned on the pad, just above the knee-roll, the impact is in front of middle and it's clipping the top of middle-stump, stays with the original call and Banton has to go. England don't lose a review, but they've lost Tom Banton now. The mini revival from West Indies continues, might've nipped back slightly, but Banton made it worse for himself with that shuffle.

Tom Banton lbw b Russell 3(4).

Good come back $ammy!

Narper 2025-06-06 19:17:50

18.4
Alzarri Joseph to Buttler, out Lbw!! No 100 and a collective groan from the crowd as Buttler misses out. It's a fast short of length delivery that tailed in late, Buttler shuffles across and tries to clip, misses, was beaten for pace, thudded into the pads on the kneeroll, given out and Buttler reviews to see it as ump's call on hitting. That will do for West Indies. End of a fantastic knock though.

Buttler lbw b Alzarri Joseph 96(59) [4s-6 6s-4

19.6
Holder to Will Jacks, out Will Jacks Run Out!! 1 run completed. Will Jacks is run-out off the last ball. Drives the low full-toss to long-on and takes on Russell, a flat powerful throw right next to the stumps to Shai Hope who does the rest. Jacks doesn't dive and he is well short.

Will Jacks run out (Russell/Shai Hope) 9(6) [4s-1]

Shai Hope shouldn't be the t20 captain and I'm saying this as a Hope fan. Serious injustice to Rovman.

Brerzerk 2025-06-06 20:00:46

With Holder, Powell and Shep in the side why isn't Rutherford batting at 4 in a 120 ball/innings match? SMDH!

Short and pulled high towards the longer leg side... it's hanging in the air... and drops down onto the turf through the hands of Jacob Bethell at deep midwicket! Perhaps got caught in the wind but Bethell should have done better there

Bethell wearing his West Indian cap on that one.

ENG 188/6 (20)

WI 167/9 (20)

England won by 21 runs

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Liam Dawson

Narper 2025-06-06 22:59:09

Liam Dawson | Player of the Match: (On his bowling performance and return to the English side)
Really good, pleasing to contribute to a really good win. When you got 190 on the board, you can bowl defensively, tried to keep it simple and thankfully it worked. It's been three-and-a-half years since I played, little bit nervous but happy to contribute. They have got extreme power so trying to keep it away from their arc, they are really good players.

Narper 2025-06-06 22:59:43

Shai Hope | West Indies captain:
(On what didn't work for them today) Can't really pinpoint one or the other, the bowlers didn't bowl well in the powerplay but they pulled it back towards the end. Every single ground is different, you have to adapt to the conditions, we tried to understand the dimensions, also the pitch was a bit slow. A lot of teams like to throw spin at the West Indies, we have to play better, we have a powerful and destructive batting lineup, we have got two games to go, so need to come back better
.

Narper 2025-06-06 23:00:27

Harry Brook | England captain:
Really pleased to get the win. To have Liam and Rash (Rashid) operating the way they do it was great. Unbelievable, to have him (Buttler) in the team, to have him bat in the top three, it's an honour. It's quite a big field, it's hard to hit boundaries in the middle-order, you have to take twos, as I said to have Liam and Rash bowling in tandem was great. We had a bit of a tricky period with the bat in the middle overs, If we can get a few more boundaries in the middle that would be great, that's one learning and also running hard between the wickets. Also, if we can nail the yorkers at the backend, that would be great.
