Those players you mentioned would improve the team significantly but a number of them, I have been told, submitted documents from early 2024 when Hallgrimsson and John Wall were in charge. Dujon Sterling, Ben Johnson, Lewis Baker, Reiss Nelson, Mason Greenwood, Keinan Davis & Jonathan Rowe.
Baker & Greenwood had errors or omissions on their documents that delayed the process. I am surprised however that Johnson, Sterling, Nelson, Davis & Rowe are yet to obtain their passports. Since this year Max Aarons, Jayden Bogle, Rico Henry & Cameron Archer submitted theirs.
PICA however advised on April 1 2025 that the process to obtain Citizenship by Descent will take 3 times longer. They say 90 days however if you read the comments under that post on social media you will see people complaining that they are waiting for 1 year to 2 years to even get a response from PICA.
So those players will be ready for the 2030 world cup cycle, not 2026. In the case of Rowe and Greenwood I think they will be playing for England by then. The JFF leadership is not interested in the players and the JLP government has never been interested in sports except to show up and kiss Messi. When leadership is interested players get their paperwork.
Watch the difference. Jamaica's national basketball team is actively recruiting players of Jamaican descent, particularly from the NBA, to bolster its squad for the FIBA World Cup 2027 and potentially qualify for the Olympics. Key targets include Scottie Barnes, Isaiah Stewart, Devin Vassell, Norman Powell, and the Thompson twins (Amen and Ausar). They have brought on the Marley Foundation on board and watch them create history like they did with the Reggae Girlz.
