At least they are young players who can still learn

anthonyp 2025-06-07 14:08:00

It's strange that not a single Guyanese good enough to make this Academy squad.

Where's Nedd, Thorne or even Junior Sinclair? Is it because CWI got issues with GCB?

Did these players you mentioned not graduate from.the academy?

anthonyp 2025-06-07 15:50:45

In reply to tc1

No. Thorne and Sinclair played with them recently.

Didn't Thorne play against Ireland and cleaned up the Irish on this same ground last year or so?

Also where is Jordan Johnson? He is a better batsman with way more potential than half of the batsmen in this XI. How come they investing so much into Teddy Bishop and Auguste but not someone like Johnson?

In the meantime, I can't find a thread dedicated to the WI Women vs England Women 3rd ODI game.

dayne 2025-06-07 16:29:06

Well. Pittman is having a good day, he has been inconsistent so far in his career

So why don't you start one Droopsy? I have never seen you start a thread in all my time on this board? D

Bro, all three graduated from Academy....Nedd & Thorne played 4-day tournament 2025 for Guyana.... Junior Sinclair played white ball for Guyana....

CWI is a dysfunctional body but in this case...

Yes,The academy seems to be lacking a good program to develop players

Sinclair played with WI Emerging in the super50. He is yet to play for Guyana.

Thorne played with them up to last year.

Bishop, Auguste, Edwards, and a few others all played for their regional teams yet they're playing year after year with this Academy team. Ah think Teddy Bishop even played a few ODIs.

Another question, how do we know if someone graduated from this Academy?

I'll admit that I'm not a good host.

anthonyp 2025-06-07 17:45:09

Another thing.. why did they make it mandatory for a leg spinner to play in the recent emerging league and not a single wrist spinner in this squad?

Where is Zishan Motara or Micah McKenzie?

Guess they aren't serious about developing a wrist spinner in the region...

'

That was with T20I in mind but surely it would be more beneficial grooming Motara or Mckenzie via the longer version?

Close of Play, Day One:

Sri Lanka Emerging Players XI - 292 all out (S.de Livera 130, S.Daniel 47, K.Pitman 7/28 )
West Indies Academy XI - 34/1

Kelvin Pitman produced an outstanding spell of fast bowling that the tourists had no answer for, as he finished with the remarkable figures of 7/28 from his 13 overs. Early on, Sri Lanka Emerging Players were 70/0 before Pitman started his demolition job. They soon collapsed to 89/5, before recovering after Pitman was rested. Keeper-batsman Sohan de Livera kept the visitors going with a swashbuckling century only for Pitman to return and help clean up the tail before the tourists total got out of hand. Despite losing opening batsman Justin Jagessar without scoring, the home side will likely feel the happier after the first day's play.

Never heard of this guy pittman but congrats 7 wickets in one innings is not common for a west indian nowadays

he has been around since the famous Headley Weekes wins by the Academy but never consistent enough. Well done to him. I have read the other posts and agree that players like Junior Sinclair should be given a chance.

Let it go man, so what if a Guyanese not playing, it is just one game, have you given thought to maybe they are exposing some other players it is developmental tour for heavens sake
West indies A just played and there were no bajans who cares we need to expose as many players as possible

dayne 2025-06-10 11:06:19

Not much fight from the Academy team, they looked like they just wanted to get the match over with, they had all the time to bat but they batted like it was a 3-day match. Auguste and Rivaldo Clark looked like batters who can be good in the future.

velo 2025-06-10 11:41:38

They are playing against professionals i saw the captain of the a side has played 70 first class matvhes and has 12 fc centuries and has not played for south africa yet.i dont think any of the batsmen in wi a side has even a century to their name at fc level .i really thought they could have one the match with more level headed batting though
