Has ever had a batsman in their prime turn round and say..Thanks but no thanks?
I simply cannot remember any... Gone were the days when you had to beg a great West Indies batsman past his prime to retire.
The magic of a West Indies cap in any format, test, odi or even T20 now is a play ting for greater tings..

Or maybe certain players don't like the prospect of playing for certain coaches.

I said maybe.

Don forget the Universe boss was banished by a former WI coach and current WI coach for 18 months when he was in his prime...

Remember the great Shiv begged like a dawg for two more test matches ....only two more ....and at a time when there were no obvious player available to replace him....and he was spitefully denied his humble request

West Indies cricketers in general in our time don't see West Indies cricket as a first option pledge to base themselves from.
For those who can't understand what I just wrote, put it like this 'I'm a child of West Indies cricket and everything else about me is an offspring of this'

Nurse retired right after a double to vs NZ away, I think Basil Butcher did the same, believe his last innings was a ton vs Poms in Pomland before he went to US to live. Hubert can tell us if Bam-Bam Weekes would've played more tests had he not returned to where he was born...USA. L Farry Gomes and Garner weren't happy with Viv's captaincy and left. M.L.C. Foster was picked for the tour of India '74-75 and promptly retired 'to concentrate on his business.' Some say as a veteran FC cappo he was peeved Lloyd and not he was appointed cappo. His replacement was on I.V.A. Richards whose career and Big Cat's tenure is the subject of legends.
