West Indies One-Day International (ODI) vice-captain Brandon King is in line for his Test debut against Australia, after the 30-year-old Jamaican batsman was named in a 16-man squad to face Australia in a three match Test series in the Caribbean.

King is one of eight changes to the West Indies Test team that drew 1-1 with Pakistan in January. The others are newly appointed captain Roston Chase, Shai Hope, Kevlon Anderson, John Campbell, Johan Layne, Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph.

The players who made way are: Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Amir Jangoo, Gudakesh Motie, Kemar Roach, and Kevin Sinclar.

The idea, according to coach Daren Sammy, is “to fortify a batting line-up that is expected to sustain pressure on the opposing attack”.

“We analysed what the top teams in the world are doing and what is needed for us to bridge the gap,” Sammy told the CWI Media. “We have identified a direction, along with the group of players and resources to give us the best advantage as we seek to take the team up [the] ladder and challenge the best in the world.”

Good try by Sammy to get the white-ball players to play Test cricket, I hope he is able to turn things in the right direction, the batting looks stronger on paper, but it will be interesting to see if some of the white-ball players are able to have success in red-ball cricket. I don't agree with the dropping of Hodge, he should have at least made the squad.

As a west Indian I will support any team picked .”However Sammy is just a big mouth person with no skills to show except to be a very lucky person yet brainless person.
I blame Sammy for the fall of Daren Bravo, the sudden retirement of Pooran, the non selection of Jason Holder who is still one of the best all rounders in the world and now the destruction of Alick Arthanaze, who is currently our best batter and has scored the most runs the last even tests. In my opinion Sammy is a destructive wind like his St Lucia Volcano. By the time Sammy is fired West Indies will be worse off than ever before

The words of the coach. If we win, he deserves to be credited with identifying the proper players to win the series. If we lose, there can be no excuses to extricate him from the blame.

I can recall Sammy holding his bat like a cane cutter holding a cutlass during his career as a player. What can he teach the players about batting ?

The inept and unqualified Sammy is being exposed!

He is now realizing that clapping and platitudes will only take him so far, when he doesn't have the likes of Samuels and others available to ride on their coattails and to do the things that he himself was always incapable of doing!
