This should be a very competitive series and some great Test Cricket.

India is rebuilding and they are still good. Most of the batters are young.
Jaiswal exhibits a lot of patience. Just like ...

Josh Tongue to Jaiswal, SIX, there's a deep point but Jaiswal doesn't mind that. He goes after this short and wide delivery outside off, reaches for it and carved it flat, was in the air but flies over the sweeper cover fence, great timing and it flies off the bat
41.1
Bashir to Shubman Gill, FOUR, fast outfield and it beats the man in pursuit! Flighted delivery full outside off, Gill prods forward and opens the face of the bat to squeeze it away through backward point, Tongue gave chase and it kept gaining on him
Partnership 91 at 5.25
Good batting
didn;t gill and arhanaze play in the same under 19 world cup
In reply to velo
WHO is that?
48.1
Brydon Carse to Jaiswal, FOUR, crunched! Length delivery slanting across outside off, just a fraction short and wide and Jaiswal doesn't need second invitations to dispatch this to the point fence with a fierce cut, he's into the 90s now!
Going road to do some work
Want Jaiswal ton first
Damn
Cramp ?
In reply to velo
Are you insinuating that if Athanaze were Hindian, then he also would've been part of the current test 'team'?
In reply to velo

48.5
Brydon Carse to Jaiswal, FOUR, he's in a hurry now, on to 99! Pitched up full and outside off, Jaiswal presses right forward and drives it away firmly through the covers, leans right into it and gets it past Stokes at cover
48.4
Brydon Carse to Jaiswal, FOUR, you can't bowl there to Jaiswal! He'll feast on them all day, cramp or not, short and wide outside off, Jaiswal slashes it away with purpose through backward point, there's a big hundred drawing ever closer
48.6
Brydon Carse to Jaiswal, 1 run, there it is and boy doesn't he love it! Good length delivery on off-stump, Jaiswal hangs back and eases it towards point before setting off, he raises his arm and takes the helmet off before leaping in joy as he makes it through to the other end

Chris Woakes [16.0-2-73-0] is back into the attack
The 2nd new-ball is available. Stokes immediately takes it. England need wickets and it's Woakes who will start off.
IND 331/3 (80) CRR: 4.14
80.2
Woakes to Pant, FOUR, so ugly and it's an uglier way to get to a fifty but Pant won't care. Full on middle, Pant sinks low to slogsweep, right off the toe-end and it runs wide of the diving mid-on to his right, looks like he wants to take the new-ball head-on
Among wicketkeepers, only Adam Gilchrist has got to the landmark in fewer innings (63).
Everybody making runs today, except for the debutant, Bhardwaj Sai Sudharsan, who only has a big duck to display in his trophy case.
81.2
Brydon Carse to Shubman Gill, FOUR, no third man.

He comes down the track and takes the length delivery on the stumps, swings it and the ball flies over deep square-leg's head as he backtracked, Woakes can't quite believe it as does Stokes, both can only smile

How to lie with statistics....
Most of the previous six Tests at Headlingley were played in overcast and drizzly conditions. This time, it's hot and sunny in Yorkshire - which is very rare!
The logical decision would've been to win the toss, and bat, in these conditions.

Bashir to Pant, SIX, a one-handed six to get his 7th Test hundred. He woke up against RCB late in the IPL and he's carried on here as well. Back-to-back Test hundreds in England. This is his format. Generally takes the pitch and opposition out of the equation. He has been India's crisis man for a while now

Tossed up full on middle, Pant stepped out and went downtown, didn't quite get hold of it and it went high off the toe end, Carse started spriting right back and it just went over his head and his outstretched arms before landing on the advertising triangle. That brings up the 200-run stand between these two

Bumrah to Crawley, no run
0.4
Bumrah to Crawley, FOUR, edge goes through! Good length delivery on off-stump, pushed it a little straighter and he found the edge this time as Crawley fended from his crease,
In reply to Narper
Bumrah strikes
0.6
Bumrah to Crawley, out Caught by Karun Nair!! That is absolutely unplayable! Call it magic, call it wizardry, call it other wordly because that is simply stunning from Bumrah. Crawley can only put his head down and walk off, nothing he could've done about that, absolutely nothing. Good length delivery angling into middle-leg, hit the deck and straightened considerably, turned him into an S and brushed a bit of the outside edge, then his back thigh and went straight to first slip. Crawley goes cheaply and India have early success!
Crawley c Karun Nair b Bumrah 4(6) [4s-1]
1.3
Siraj to Pope, FOUR, Pope is off and running with a boundary! Siraj can't quite replicate what Bumrah has done at the other end, length delivery angling into middle-leg, doesn't straighten and it goes on to the pads, Pope clips it away through to the deep backward square leg ropes
In reply to Narper

3.1
Siraj to Duckett, FOUR, that'll get his juices flowing! Siraj isn't quite backing Bumrah up here, overpitched on off-stump, Duckett prods forward and creams it straight back down the ground with the full face of the bat, comfortably beat mid-off to his left
3.6
Siraj to Duckett, FOUR, more runs for Duckett, four more! Length delivery slanting away outside off, Duckett hangs back and opens the face of the bat to punch it away to Jadeja's right at backward point, no stopping it once it beat him, Siraj has gone for 19 runs in two overs now

4.1
Bumrah to Pope, 2 runs, short of length outside off, patted past point, used the pace nicely and put it into the gap, he'll get a couple
4.5
Bumrah to Duckett, FOUR, another edge that goes into the gap! England are riding their luck!

6.6
Bumrah to Duckett, no run, dropped! You don't see Jadeja dropping many, not at backward point but he's put this one down! Length delivery just outside off, Duckett stayed inside the line and slashed hard, didn't keep it down and it went quickly to Jadeja's right, at a decent catch-able hieght too but down it went

Siraj to Root, no run, no wonder Root reviewed immediately. The Headingley crowd love that as it comes up on the big screen. The shiny side was pointing towards third man and it came in sharply with the rough side, conventional swing, Root falls over slightly on the flick, misses, rapped on the pads but too much angle and too much movement, means the ball is missing leg-stump easily. As soon as umpire Paul Reiffel's finger went up, Root gestured for the review with a few mutterings under his breath. . Then went to Pope and made the point it was heading down leg. It was the case. Gill was so happy as he ran towards Siraj with the finger pointing towards him, KL Rahul was mobbing Siraj but all those celebrations soon turned into glum faces. A big moment in the day

Just a back of a length delivery outside off stump, but it's not just another ball because of Bumrah's unique angle. Bumrah to Brook, no ball, oh Jasprit Bumrah! Siraj took a great catch but Bumrah has bowled another front foot no-ball, the third of the over. He surprised Brook with a short ball because the batter was expecting yorkers and trying to protect his stumps. Bumrah was so smart to dig it in and rush Brook on the surprised pull shot. Siraj ran back from short mid-wicket, dived full length and caught it clean but all in vain now

You don't get out at 99 from a shot like that. You wait to get a single and then
celebrate with an attempted 6 after that. Brook having batted so well will kick himself
for that mad moment . Get your hundred then do the stupid if needs be.
Young ones watching should learn from this..but how many WI upcoming players
are watching to gain some nuance of the game. ?
In reply to hubert
He did try to keep it down, which brought about his downfall.
In reply to natty_forever
Once you play a shot like that in the air you have made an error. Wait for the next ball if anything and play for
your hundred which is what all batters bat for in the first place. A single would do.
That's how we we taught as youth playing the game. Shot selection at 99 does not have to be expansive. Its a
sucker's dismissal.
The first tent of batting as a batter is know how to get off the mark. Usually with a single too.
When you watch cricket you can see the best batters know this.
You get out on 99 by being defeated by the bowler, bowled or lbw or caught from wonderful deliveries.
But then again I learned the game in a different era where certain things were stressed.
The late great Atlas Headley would be very angry if one of his charges, especially one he coached
get out this way. ' So you don't like to bat ,son' would always be his comment for outs like this and
other questionable shot execution.
Mass George liked making 100s and was dismissed only once in the 90s during his Test career of
10 tons from some 22 matches.
Boys growing up with the intent to play and have wonderful careers at the highest level, should inculcate
certain qualities of sound thinking in their game.
That is a certified lack in Today's West Indies players. One uses a bat and ball but you play with your brain.
Woakes is a better batsman than WI top 5

Brydon Carse to Jaiswal, out Caught by Jamie Smith!! Lovely delivery and that's the edge. The round the wicket angle helps. It's a short of length delivery that is angling into fourth-stump, then seams away, opens Jaiswal up, on the back foot defence, he can't handle that and he edges it behind. Brydon Carse and England knew Jaiswal had edged it and were celebrating. That's the early wicket England wanted. A hundred and a low score in the 2nd innings. Stokes to Sai Sudharsan, out Caught by Crawley!! Stokes does it for England. A grimace from Sai Sudharsan as he walks off. he was loking good but has fallen to the trap on the flick. Stokes points at Crawley as if this was a well-set plan. The inswinger and full on the stumps, Sudharsan flicks and doesn't keep it down, straight and low to Crawley at mid-wicket. Maybe that is for the better. Can't believe the Poms looking set to win.
Match delayed - wet outfield
Pommies need 96 or more rain
Mindia need 6 wickets or more rain
Not out and India has no reviews left

Jadeja to Root, no run, wow! Phew. Gill is shocked at the ball-tracking. India now have no reviews left. This is how Root used to get out to Jadeja in India. Misses the slider, rapped on the pads in front of middle and leg, ball-tracking shows it to be missing the stumps, going over. Was that bouncing so much? Gill and the Indians can't quite believe their eyes as they watch it on the big screen. Umpire Gaffaney shook his head even as Jadeja kept appealing, he convinced Gill to go for it. With the impact around the kneeroll, hard to see that bouncing so high - especially from a good length area, but that's what ball-tracking shows
Turned down by umpire Chris Gaffaney. India review. No bat. Missing

Jadeja to Root, 3 runs, Jadeja is livid with Shardul at mid-on. And rightly so. Flicked to his right and he overruns the ball and slips, the ball slips away to his left and he takes his own time to get up, that's what angers Jadeja, who screams at Shardul, Root is aware and they pinch three

Jadeja to Stokes, no run, Pant had no idea where the ball was! Off the glove and on to the right arm, it lobs up in the air and KL is late to pick it as well, watches it fall tantalisingly short. Was a golden chance to get Stokes, he goes for the reverse-sweep and it's off the glove and then off the arm
65.5
Jadeja to Root, FOUR, bad bounce for Karun at backward point and that won't please Jadeja at all. Tossed up full outside off, Root gets forward and opens the face of the bat, it seemed to be a fairly straightforward stop until it hit a part of the turf and bounced awkwardly, slips away and goes for four. Karun shakes his head
66.2
Prasidh to Stokes, FOUR, Stokes on the charge. He comes down the track and then sees the full delivery outside off, he belts it through cover and it races away to the fence, did not hold back at all
66.3
Prasidh to Stokes, FOUR, luck with Stokes now. His mouth goes into an O shape. On a length outside off, Stokes opens the face of the bat and guides it
Stokes gawn

Jadeja to Stokes, out Caught by Gill!! Stokes falls to the reverse-sweep. He wanted to play only one way against Jadeja, perishes. It's slower and fuller outside off, into the footholes, Stokes goes for the reverse-sweep and it's a top-edge and a simple catch to short third. Gill is elated after taking that. Another twist in this game? The field was strengthened before this ball for that reverse-sweep and Stokes gets out immediately
Stokes c Gill b Jadeja 33(51) [4s-4]
Stokes playing the reverse-sweep vs Jadeja in this innings: 8 off 16 and the dismissal.
Unnecessary shot..

Looks like Siraj was trying to do a Dinas there with that 'fake' leg injury.
Way too late for that.

I haven't seen the poll , I will check it later.

Siraj to Root, FOUR, thick outside-edge and flies wide of the diving outstretched right hand of the gully fielder. 50 for Root and the crowd go Rooottttttttttttttttt in celebration. Full outswinger outside off, Root walks forward and is on the move even as he drives, the swing away takes the thick outside-edge and it absolutely flies
ENG 355/5 (81) CRR: 4.38
England need 16 runs
Joe Root 53(84)

Jadeja to Jamie Smith, SIX, Jamie Smith wants to finish it off now. This is on a length outside the leg-stump, turns in, Jamie Smith with a massive sweep, hit aerially and it flies over deep square-leg, did not bother to keep it down. Flies into the crowd
81.2
Jadeja to Jamie Smith, FOUR, Jamie Smith takes the aggressive option. Full on off, Jamie Smith gets forward and sinks low on his back knee, cleared his front leg and slogsweeps to the vacant deep mid-wicket area, along the ground
