The Independent Voice of West Indies Cricket

West Indies team for the first test against OZ..

debut: 1/15/09
5,498 runs

In batting order:

Braffit
Campbell
King
Carty
Chase (c)
Hope (wk)
Greaves
Alzarri
Warrican
Shamar/ Phillip
Seales

Sorry, but King and Hope will play. There is no way these guys are called up to the team to sit on the bench.
I would probably play another batsman in place of Greaves and that would most probably be Kevlon Anderson for his performance in the FC season this year, since Chase and Warrican can complement the pacers.

Mikyle Louis was just taking the place of Campbell temporarily due to his issues. Now that Campbell is back, though he better perform or that will be his last hurrah.
Carty is getting the nod over Anderson, because Sammy has now blurred the lines between red ball and white ball cricket to the point where you cannot overlook his performance in the recent limited over series..

Anderson Phillip may get the nod over Shamar because of the latter's lack of form and the former's performance in the FC season and against South Africa A.
Layne was never going to play and is just there for the ride and to gain experience.

Imlach is the only one that will probably be left out in the cold.
Another option would be to play Imlach as the WK, play Hope instead of Anderson as the batsman that would replace Greaves.

We could opt for Yashavi Jaiswal to partner Kraigg at the top.cool

What do you guys think?

I playing Greaves. We need to take 20 wickets, padding up the batting has never guaranteed a thing.

Well, I have Greaves in my first team, but the selectors may think the tail is too long.
But I'm with you. Greaves is more likely to put in an all round performance than a batter gives us runs.

Motie is not in the squad.lol

If that waste squad bat first its a 2 day match... if OZ bat first it will go into the third day.

An entire batting order with guys who could barely average 20... some less than that in their last 10-20 innings.

I know, but we have to play the cards that we are dealt, right?

the folly of the captaincy and vice is painfully evident. Chase should be the "spinner" along 3 quicks and then either Greaves or another quick. The batting order is also a mess .. Anderson has a better record than most including Cathy... but they want to force King & Hope in. Campbell was doing poorly before the drug ban, let's not pretend that he's now our saviour...
1. Brathwaite
2. Louis or Campbell
3. Anderson or Carthy
4. King or Carthy
5. Hope
6. Imlach
7. Chase
8.Greaves or S Joseph or Warrican
9. Searles
10. Alzarri
11. Philips or S Joseph

Like you, I had issues selecting this team.
Let's see what the final outcome is at game time.

You are correct. No one in their right mind can mistake this lot as a Murderer's row.

From the little I have seen ,I would go with Imlach as the keeper, replacing Greaves in your team and
Philip instead of Shamer who has not shown that he is back to his best, yet.
Anderson instead of King would not surprise me either but this being Chase's first Test in charge he
will probably go with the more experienced newcomer in King who would also debuting if so.

I think the WI will get the better of OZ and not lose this series. Chase is one of my
fav player and wish him well.

Good catch.
Seen it often on here where the selectors are bashed but when some name
their team they pick up to 14 lol

Nope.
Just looked at the reality of who was in the squad.
I figured these seven for sure would play:
Check my initial post and see the reasoning for Hope and King.

Chase
Warrican
Braffit
Shai Hope
King
Seales
Alzarri

There were just four spots left:
An allrounder
Another middle order bat
Someone to open with Braffit, and
Another bowler.

Ya, once you decided that Hope would keep wicket it all fell into place.
