David 'Syd' Lawrence

Has died a great fast bowler partner of our Courtney Walsh on the county circuit with his beloved Gloucestershire CCC. Watching all the tributes and quite surprised Cuddy hasn't said anything publicly yet.
I remember him bouncing out Jeffery Dujon and Viv Richards on their last test match at the Oval. Big hearted lad who got the crowds going due to his efforts and enthusiasm when he was bouncing in to deliver from quite long run up.

Didn't know he was the one that dropped Phil Simmons he did have a nasty bouncer on him and running in on that day bowling to Dujon and Richards in both their last test match he did hurry them up and got them out if I'm not mistaken.
We lost that test match but drawn the series.

I rememer one particular delivery to Viv who lofted him straight over the sight screen as if he was a gentle trundler in a Sunday League game.

Courtney Walsh, Devon Malcolm and co had a minute's silence for Lawrence before the start of their charity match in Milton Keynes for the Friends of the Caribbean yesterday.
