Dwl. So this is not about the World Test Championship 2025 - 2027? Bascombe referenced planning for the "World Test Championship 2027 on to 2029". So, given that the 2025 - 2027 World Test Championship is obviously not the focus, how would giving Roach, a stalwart of WI cricket, the opportunity to play his last match at home at the Kensington Oval be of any jeopardy? One match would so greatly affect plans for 2027 - 2029? It is not even like Roach would be dead weight on the team. He would actually have been a great asset playing in that first test on a pitch he has always done well. In the seven matches he has played at Kensington, Roach has taken 32 wickets at an average of 18.56 and a strike rate of 39.9. That is world class!! It is very poor to just discard him like that. To put this into context, this compares with the great Malcolm Marshall who played 8 test matches at Kensington Oval taking a total of 49 wickets at an average of 18.59 and a strike rate of 36.9. Better at Kensington than Ambrose, Walsh, Joel Garner etc. It would have made sense picking him for that first test against Australia.
Also, does this then mean that Sammy was just given the coaching job without an interview for the next four years? The focus is on the 2027 - 2029 cycle and not the current cycle? So does that also mean that Chase and Warrican was seriously selected as captain and vice captain for the next four years and wasn't an emergency stop gap for this 2025 - 2027 cycle? What the hell is going on in WI cricket? These people just doing what they feel like with inconsistent explanations as it suits them.
