India lost the plot when they gave England too much time to bat! India forgot that they were playing test cricket and needed to bat for time a bit longer into day 5.
Obviously, Bazball knew their home conditions and opted to bat last on a pitch that held up well!

India's inexplicable batting collapses in both innings have dem in dis losing position now....Bazball approach has been successful for England with reasonably gettable targets....so an almost ungettable target was needed forr India to get a good chance

I said dis on anoher thread

Yes. They have some things to look at. They also need to source some glue..too many catches went down
But they will bounce back. It's a retooled test tam with the departure of three Big Ones, Rohit,Ashwin and Virat.
Their experience was missing this game especially away.
Lord's will be different.
Good win Poms..hurts to say that smile

Jaiswal makes a hundred and then gives away 110. A liability to the side.
He should be taught a lesson and get benched. At this level, you can't drop dolly catches.

As I said before Bro, if the Poms neutralized and stifled Bumrah then they were going to chase this down given the way they play and the nature of this wicket.

If Bumrah is injured then the IPL boys are in big trouble. This is a 5 Test series and without him their bowling attack looks pretty ordinary.

Congrats to the Poms though. They gave up 5 centuries but still found a way to win - comfortably.

England bowling attack is also inexperienced and weak as well! I expect them to make some changes!

England have made a habit of fielding first since Stokes became captain in 2022.

In nine previous home Tests in which England have won the toss in that period, they have batted first only once. From those nine matches, they have won six and probably would have had a seventh had it not been for rain in Manchester during the fourth Ashes Test of 2023.

Recent history also favours fielding first at Headingley. The previous six Tests on this ground were won by the team that fielded first.

There can be justification for fielding first in good batting conditions. In order to win a Test a team needs to bowl the opposition out twice, and therefore gives themselves the maximum amount of time to do that by fielding first.

Some pitches also get better for batting as a Test progresses, making a run chase in the fourth innings the best time to score runs.
