New cycle of the test icc tables. Everybody ....the reset. So to my little understanding the likes of Hope, King and yes Pooran were told to make themselves available for all formats if you don't then you're liable to miss out on your fave format. Pooran said no thank you but all the others obliged so for the regime to kick in all the known ' stars' are selected first up.

While I do not understand the basis for picking the team the way it was done, Imlach needs to improve his batting consistency.
His glovework is probably better than Hope, whom I have not seen keep wicket in tests, let alone an entire series.
he just has to look to the England- India series to see his what his contemporaries Rishabh Pant and Jamie Smith are doing.

Imlach needs to improve his batting consistency.

Imlach scored 538 runs at an average of 67 in the most recent regional red ball competition.

What more he supposed to do?

Meanwhile, Shai Hope averaged 18 in the same competition.

Imlach performed impressively behind the stumps in Pakistan.

Shai Hope averages just under 50 in ODI cricket.

But in the past 18 months, he averages 36 in ODI cricket.

This is more about marketing and the optics of Sammy’s appointment as all format coach delivering on the promise that he alone has the ability to get white ball players to play test cricket, than a pure cricketing reason.

Yes you can say that WI simply following other nations by utilizing their equivalent of olayers like Pant and Smith, but don’t say Imlach needs to score more runs.

He’s done plenty in that regard and has done so consistently in domestic competition.

Hope is not a test keeper. And King is not a test batter. This is batshit crazy.

Bro, You preaching to the choir.
Hope in my mind should never be on this squad.
His absence would have made Imlach's position as the WK a certainty.

Part of the gamble here (even if there is no indication of that) is that Hope is a better bat than Imlach.

Kevlon Anderson scored runs too, but he is not going to be in the test eleven.
So did Josh DaSilva, but he is not even in the squad.

I was merely saying that in order to ensure his position is tenured, he must consider scoring more runs in tests or do so consistently even if not at the level of Pant or Jamie Smith.
First Class runs can only take you so far in West Indies cricket, if you do not show up on the big stage.

Fair.

Listen….Shai Hope is unquestionably a better batsman than Tevin Imlach. So I get the “rationale” for using him in the role as wicketkeeper batsman.

My thing is this. If it is you’re using Hope in this dual role, but you’re listing him to bat AFTER Roston Chase AND Justin Greaves in the batting order?

Thats crazy to me.

If you’re trying to emulate Pant and Jamie Smith, where did they bat in their respective lineups?

Keeping in an ODI and then opening the batting is hard enough. Shai Hope did it for years. Now he’s dropped down to 4.

I can’t see him agreeing to potentially spending a day and a half in the field and then coming in to bat 2 down.

I think the team is unbalanced with 2 spinners. Either Warrican or Chase should sit out, allowing Hope to focus on batting only and Imlach to do what he does best.

Playing BOTH Chase and Warrican unbalances the team. But that’s what Sammy chose. He got it.

Now he’ll reap the consequences……..good and bad.

Shai Hope should bat no lower than 5 in red ball cricket.

Anywhere from 3-5 for him is good.

Poor Imlach...toiling away in red ball to be sacked for a part time keeper and shitty red ball batter.

Come on Musicman a bit disingenuous even for you. How many innings did Hope play?

2.

If he cyah successfully negotiate Jayden Seales, Anderson Phillip, and Joshua James in at least 1 inning in red ball cricket, it’s concerning when he has to go up against the Aussie attack on the same pitch

I do not agree that Chase and Warrican unbalance the team. We are playing in the WI where our spinners know how to take wickets. (remember Chase 8 for 60 v England??). At the end of the day, we need to take 20 wickets and so need as much frontline bowling as possible. Imlach should have played as he is a better batsman than at least King in redball cricket. The choice should have been King or Hope but not both. What Sammy is saying is: I want my stars to play test cricket. However, his stars are only the internationals so if you do not get picked for either T20 or ODI because you focus on red ball, like Josh or Imlach, your coo coo is well cooked. But we rally, with the reality that neither Hope nor King is likely to make any impact with the bat in this game or any game.

Anyone know what radio channel this will be on please?

A few serious questions please:
Why is there no outcry that Roach has been dropped? I think it is a scandalous decision.

Who selected the squad?

Was Jason Holder available for selection or did he prefer to go and play t20 cricket? I find it hard to believe that he would turn down the chance to play Australia at home in test cricket.

Does anybody know if Rutherford was available or considered for selection? He is a guy that I think could be a fine test player.

Why was Joshua da Silva not in the A team squad? That seems quite incredible.

On what basis has Brandon King been selected? Best of luck to him but it’s a strange one.

Why was Jangoo dropped after only one series?

I have serious doubts about Sammy, imagine putting a teenager to open the batting against England- a role he had never performed before and then dropping him the next game??? It’s incredibly bad man-management.

Also the selection of Johnson Charles worries me.

Another question:
How come the Caribbean cricket podcast chose that name?
This website was here many moons before them, I don’t believe they have anything to do with this website?

So, what are you saying? You only need to play one red-ball match in the FC season to get a shoo-in to the Test team?

This Test selection is ridiculous. Using white-ball cricket to pick your Test team...I have very little confidence in this side.

Imlach displayed tremendous work with the gloves in Pakistan, far better than any other regional keeper has shown in recent memory. He also dug in on a difficult pitch and scored a vital thirty-odd in the crucial second innings of the second test. He comes home and scores tons of runs, only to be replaced by Shai Hope who for all his white ball talent, is simply NOT a red ball keeper by any stretch. Hope had a limited run of appearances in the regional tournament but what he showed was that he was happy to just go out there swinging wildly - again, NOT test match batting.

I really like Shai Hope but feel that this is a mistake to take the gloves away from the region's best keeper.

It could also be asked why King is in the side after a very mediocre showing in the regionals? Yet Da Silva and Anderson are left on the sidelines or outside the squad?

Chase has stated that he wants the team to play with a bit more Caribbean flair. I welcome that and will watch and support the guys out there in Barbados.

The entire top 7 looks fragile! WI need to consider the following top 7:

1. Brathwaite
2. Campbell/Louis/Tage
3. Jangoo
4. Anderson
5. Rutherford
6. Da Silva (c)
7. Imlach (wk)
