It’s his first test as head coach

He’s done it his way.

Peeps may not agree with his selections.

May not agree with him being appointed head coach of the test team.

But he has and that’s the reality.

He’s made changes and at least the majority of our best cricketers are playing what many here believe is the ultimate format of the game.

Many of us, myself included, have been clamoring for our best players to play regardless of format. Well……it’s here now.

The status quo hasn’t worked. Let’s see how these changes affect the performances of the test team.

Whatever the result and performance, Sammy will own it.

As a West Indian fan……Good luck!

i agree. I have always said that there is a limit to how much you can complain about the sacking of a man with a 20 something average in test cricket. But will it be a case of plus ca change?

It doesn’t make sense to be complaining about “20 sinting” average players. TRUE.

EXCEPT

WI fans in particular, but media too……have been conditioned to the following, particularly since franchise cricket made its appearance

Almost immune to insularity in WI team selection

In order to play a specific international format, a player must play, AND PERFORM IN, the corresponding domestic tournament.

Franchise cricket was not only seen as less than and often ridiculed, but also the most detrimental to WI cricket due to the best cricketers in the region gravitating to that format largely based on superior remuneration.

Correspondingly, players that played red ball cricket almost exclusively (barring a noteable few) were seen as the most loyal to WI cricket by a large part of the fan base.

So it’s understandable that there is angst amongst that fan base with the amalgamation of white ball players into the test team.

The friction between Board and players always existed. And there were issues as players tried to make the relationship more equitable.

Franchise cricket has exacerbated the situation because it provides the best and most marketable WI players with options. Options that were not previously available, especially since the doors to English County cricket were effectively closed to WI cricket after consecutive blackwashes and consistent beat downs of the England cricket team.

Much respect to you for at least one reason, you put your heartfelt feelings into your posts.

We have moved from the 70’s and 80’s mainly, as youth thinking ‘there’s no career in cricket’ because the squad can be only so many…

Modern day, select your format and thrive…
I don’t think it’s a stretch of our talent but windows of opportunities for the new generation to hone in on.

Formats opened up to facilitate a wider spectrum of career cricketers.

Its not the method he wants to try but the total disrespect, disregard and arrogance to men toiling in red ball. He feel he is flippin Baz.

Some of the communication, and lack of communication, has been unfortunate to say the least.
