To be fair.. in t20s them fellas don't really field in those positions.

Maybe its because its something new to them? Not accustom to fielding in those positions?

Excellent points..Chase was more familiar at gully. King not used to Gully. The chase drop was unfortunate.
From my angle it was the keeper's catch as it was more to his right and low .
The slip cordon are for specialists.
But all is well...Green did not last long and Kwaja, hopefully will be gone soon.
Good bowling by Shamar ,nice areas and length. Getting back to best after a few white ball games of
late.
This could be a short Test if catches are taken. smile

How often do you see someone fielding at gully in ODIs?

As for first slip, after two overs that's gone.

Completely different format too.. the red ball does way more.

Your angle is wrong.
It's a left handed batsman, first.
Right-handed keeper and slipper.
It was clearly a regulation first-slip chance.
But as people stated, Chase maybe not a specialist first-slipper.

King's drop was hard luck.
Bad height when one has to decide between fingers up or down.
Hard chance, but he should had snapped it up. like Chase.

We can agree to disagree. Usually the first slip is deeper than the WK in terms of positioning. The left handed
batter edges and ball was going down all the time.. The wk is positioned with his right leg on the batters off strump
and is supposed to move alertly to his left to snare a low flying ball before. If the ball is of waist high or so he
lets it go to the slipper.
If this is not a familiar thing in red ball to both slipper and wk,it becomes more difficult.
In white ball where there is hardly a regulation slipper and where he is positioned even wider,it it different as
orthodox settings are not usual or for long periods in the white ball arena.
But we can see things differently.
David Murray or Dujon would not allow that ball to get to Chase.
But I agree with you, tough chances.
Khwaja's is now becoming a problem. But Chase will snare him.

Don't compare Hope to David Murray.
David Murray was exceptional.
Dujon was not a naturally gifted keeper, but he had great reflexes,
thus he dove a lot where gifted keepers would not have had to do.

A rigt-handed keeper is naturally weak on his left side, especially if he is right-side dominant.
That was Chase's catch, easy as well and to his right.

BTW: I was a keeper and I am right-side dominant.
When I kept to right-handed batsmen, I had my first slip wider than regulations.
Any edges that was regulation first slip could not get past me.
When I had a left handed batsman, I had my first slip at regulation position.

I had David Murray's son (don't remember his name) who kept wicket for Barbados
play with me in Bermuda. He married a Bermudian and immigrated here.
Although he was a keeper, he played as a medium pacer and batsman in my team.
He was in first slip and I positioned him wide,
he resisted and wanted to go in the regulation position.
I told him that he will never get a catch in regulation 1st slip with me keeping to a right-handed batsman.
When the first catch came to 1st slip and I snapped it up keeping,
he then realized what i was all about and went wide.

I respect your opinion as this is all conjecture and personal opinion.
Watch Hope against right-handed batsmen, and against left handed batsmen.
Naturally gifted keepers like Imlach and Rizwan, doesn't seem to show a difference.
Imlach is equally great against left or right handed batsmen and legside or offside.

Its hard not to compare when you see how the game has regressed. I take delight in remembering
the classy wonderful players of the pass. So see with me.
I know I should not be so harsh or insensitive but I can't help it although I resist 'killing' current players
because I like a lot of them and know their potential to achieve. The cricket environment however
has changed so drastically with the advent and advance and priority of the white ball game that is also
having a negative impact on players' advancement.
Hopeful that things will reach a higher level in time.
Take care.
