Very easy not to know. But he should have bluffed his way through it. Showing uncertainty opened the door for the tiefing 3rd ump. The fact the catch was clean was not indisputable.
But the Carey noncatch was all at the ump. To the naked eye it looked a clean catch. But in slow mo and magnified there was no disputing the ball touched the ground. And under the new regulations Hope wallking would have no impact. He would be recalled.
