GCB Announces Guyana Under-19 Male Squad for CWI Regional Tournament

The Guyana Cricket Board has officially named its 14-member squad to represent the country at the upcoming Cricket West Indies Regional U19 Tournament.

Following a period of rigorous preparation though the GCB Inter-County tournament, training camps, and one on one sessions, the selectors have finalized a well-rounded unit of emerging talent.

The squad includes Jonathon Van Lange (captain), Romario Ramdehol (vice-captain), Rampersaud Ramnauth, Parmeshwar Ram, Romeo Deonarine, Sachin Balgobin, Afraz Ali Boodhu, Shamar Apple, Salim Khan, Riyad Latif, Golcharran Chulia, Nityanand Mathura, Bruce Vincent, and Micah Amsterdam.

Standby players named are Wavell Allen, Neeran Bani, Sanjay Algoo, Jayden Dowlin, Shiloh Admans, Matthew Pottoya, and Ronaldo Jeffery.

The team will be under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Garvin Nedd and manger Nazeer Mohammed.

Junior lead Selector Andre Percival expressed his confidence in the group saying “I’m confident in the group. I wasn’t directly involved in the initial selections due to my tour commitments in the Breakout League, I’ve followed the process closely, and I believe these boys have what it takes.”

The 14 member squad along with the 7 reserves will begin their full encampment on Tuesday June 17 to Thursday June 26.

The GCB extends congratulations to all selected players and applauds their dedication, discipline, and consistent performances throughout the selection process.

The Board also acknowledges and thanks the coaches, selectors, support staff, and parents for their continued contributions to the development of youth cricket in Guyana.

The Guyanese contingent is scheduled to depart for St. Kitts on June 29, 2025, as part of its commitment to early preparation and acclimatization ahead of the tournament.

The Guyana Cricket Board remains committed to structured player development and competitive readiness ahead of the tournament scheduled to be hosted in St. Kitts.

Good to hear he's recovering. Youth was rapid in the U17s.

The two I got high hopes for and hopefully they get a few games are Shamar Apple and Parmeshwar Ram, the youngest ones in the squad. Shamar is similar to Sherfane, for a youth that's yet to play U17 at the regional level, he hits it a long way.

He's still U17. Didn't make the Berbice squad so he couldn't play in the U19 inter-county tournament.

His scores dropped off a bit too, not really hearing much about him these days. It's the rainy season too so not much cricket is playing at the moment.

Got an interesting story as well... here is a bit on him.

Apple grew up in a junkyard on Fourth Street in Albertown and was sent to an orphanage when he was 12- years old.
He lived with a family in Lamaha Springs before he was sent to the Child Protection Agency.
At 13, Apple escaped from the Orphanage and went to live with his aunt’s sister on the East Bank.

“She did not want me to play cricket, and I had to stay at home all the time.
Apple moved back to Seaforth Street in Campbellsville, where he lived as a baby. A room was built for him at the back of his Aunt’s home.
“I went back to live with my Aunty, who worked on a ship and knew I always liked cricket.

He's still going through it.. hopefully cricket is the way out.

Loads of talent though. Earlier this year he was involved with the Guyana senior team as well. They gave him a knock in one of the trial matches.
