Good post, the story about Puerto Rico could be the story of most countries or regions that went through colonization. One result is consistent, almost all of the former colonized countries were left in debt and most of their populations live in poverty and in neighborhoods with poor or no infrastructure. America really exploited the people of PR, the video was horrific, especially the part that exposed what was done to the women and how the land was stolen from the local farmers

Great share, Fan! I knew bits and pieces if the story but this coverage in full puts it all together. I was often in PR in the 1980s, including actually being stationed there (by my employer) for six months at one time. The island was vibrant then with some 3+ million inhabitants. Hard to believe this is what they've come to.

Agree re the vibe of San Juan Antiguo / El Viejo San Juan. So much so that I actually stayed at a guest house on Calle San Francisco.
Dem shops opening up their shutters on hot days with their AC going full blast was a novelty to me then.

And I'm willing to bet that you guys frequented (La) Mona's in Santurce.
I recall it being a good 'site seeing' spot.

This is more than sad. Am familiar with some of the history .
PR was always caught between opting for Statehood, Independence or remaining in this
Commonwealth Status.
But the US Congress would never respect the will of the People if it
did not reflect what America wants.
This still lovely Island NEEDS help . Very Painful to watch this video and see what this
remarkable Island and people have been going through.
USA has a lot to answer for to a Higher Power .
