West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has said that "justice must be served" in relation to allegations of sexual assault made against a West Indies player, but that "the right process" should be followed.

Last week, a report in the Guyana-based Kaieteur News said that multiple women had come forward to make claims of alleged offences by the cricketer, whom ESPNcricinfo is currently not naming. It has been claimed that some offences date back to 2023. No charges have been laid.

"We're all aware of what's been going on in the media," Sammy told reporters in Grenada ahead of the second Test against Australia. "I'm very close to my players. I've had conversations with them, making sure their mental space is good.

"One thing I could say is that we believe in justice. We are a community that believes justice must be served. However, there's a process. We will continue to support in whatever way we can to make sure that due process and the right system is followed. As a cricketing board, for me as the head coach, I want justice for everyone.

The "right process" is to withdraw the player from the squad while the police investigation takes place.

Am I missing something? Was he already found guilty of the accusation in a court of law by a jury of his peers? Was a formal charge ever brought against the player? I commented on this in a different forum. This is what I do not understand about our society? We condemn and judge others without knowing all the facts presented. Why are we so quick to condemn once someone says something accusatory toward an individual? Notwithstanding the seriousness of the allegations brought nor downplaying their alleged victimization and their right to seek justice but to speak frankly, this is cricket and that is unresolved personal issues relating to all purportedly involved. Questions should be asked as to why the person or persons now stepped forward? If that the reputed crime happened in the past, why didn't the authorities press the issue then? Was there enough evidence, circumstantial or conclusive that supported the claim or accusation? Why now? Is it because of jealously, hurt, vindication, rage or is it more concealed in nature being more of a political agenda.
Like Coach Sammy said, this has to be thoroughly investigated but I don't agree with messing up someone's career of life or writing off someone on an accusation without a fair trial. Supposed he is innocent? He may very well be guilty but just suppose he is innocent.

Has he been convicted in a court of law by a jury of his peers? Was a formal charge ever brought against him? Why now at this time, and not then when the alleged accusation took place? Was there enough circumstantial or conclusive evidence presented to formally bring a charge? Why mess with a person's life and career, at this time, over just hearsay, as no charge was formally brought or conviction given.
Why are people so quick to judge and condemn without knowing the full story?

the police investigation has been taking close to three years. don't try to pull this on CWI, although they are and have been guilty of many, many cases of incompetence and maleficence. last time i checked, the Corporative Republic of Guyana had a DPP and an independent Police Service(the former of which the victim is considering suing according to her layer on sports max). they dropped the ball

It's big on Fox talk radio in Brisbane, Australia.

I listened on my way to Toowoomba, from noon to 3pm local time. It's approximately 9am now; I will listen again today.

Callers had subtle racist comments.

Allyuh know how many allegations were made against a top ten tennis player. He even paid a settlement for abuse and has continued playing for years. Was beaten at Wimbledon yesterday.

Allegations are not enough. And it’s worse with social media.
To hell with the rapists and abusers but due process is required.
