The West Indies have probably faired better than most expected. They are up against a very fine Australian team, with arguably one of the strongest bowling attacks in history.
However, I hope that I am wrong but fear the third and final test may be more one sided. The Australians will be keen to go for the sweep, especially as the WTC points are available - not like the "dead rubbers" of the past.
Going into the test, firstly, the Jamaicans need to get the lights sorted - I believe as it currently stands, they have not been passed as worthy of use in a D/N test match. And they need to find some pink cricket balls to play with
Looking forward, the batting is an absolute mess and new blood is required, along with possible movement up and down the order by one or two players. With the bowling, it is much healthier. Seales, Shamar and Alzarri potentially form the backbone of a potent pace attack for years to come. I would be sorely tempted to give Layne his debut, to let the young man have early exposure to test cricket. The Australian batting is nowhere near the standard of its bowling unit, so he may well fair OK despite the opposition being stronger overall. His height, movement and energy will add something to the team, along with valuable lower order hitting. To date, the young man has looked very promising. With the series already lost, Sammy and co. should consider taking a look at some of the squad players yet to feature, i.e. Louis, Anderson, Imlach & Layne.
