debut: 2/16/24
991 runs
My XI and my reasons:
1) M.Louis - perhaps unlucky not to have played ahead of Brathwaite, who must be removed from the firing line for all sake
2) B.King - worth trying another option, would be great it it works out going forward
3) K.Carty - persist with him, he has talent and the right approach. One or two unfortunate dismissals thus far, he'll come good
4) K.Anderson - time for his debut. Series lost, worth taking a look at him even though opposition have very strong attack - he can do no worse!
5) S.Hope - remove the gloves and just bat. Experienced and talented, hopefully the test recall comes good
6) T.Imlach (w) - should never have been left out, best glovework around by far and had strong regional season with the bat
7) R.Chase (c) - will hope to prove worth in third & final test of the series
8 ) A.Joseph - good showing thus far, consistency needed going forward
9) S.Joseph - spearhead, talisman, one of the best talents around
10) J.Layne - along with Anderson, should debut. Tall, swings the ball and could offer fine compliment in the pace quartet & offers a bit with the bat
11) J.Seales - the new leader of the attack and potentially the next great West Indian fast bowler
I would remove Brathwaite, Campbell, Greaves & Phillip. Not closing the door on anybody but with the series gone, the selectors should be looking at other options, especially the promising Anderson, Imlach and Layne.
The arguments for not playing youngsters are of course, of consideration. However, the Australian batting is not great, so Layne at least should feature.
