Third & Final Test Selection

4REALQUICKS 7/8/25, 10:51:56 AM

debut: 2/16/24
998 runs

My XI and my reasons:

1) M.Louis - perhaps unlucky not to have played ahead of Brathwaite, who must be removed from the firing line for all sake
2) B.King - worth trying another option, would be great it it works out going forward
3) K.Carty - persist with him, he has talent and the right approach. One or two unfortunate dismissals thus far, he'll come good
4) K.Anderson - time for his debut. Series lost, worth taking a look at him even though opposition have very strong attack - he can do no worse!
5) S.Hope - remove the gloves and just bat. Experienced and talented, hopefully the test recall comes good
6) T.Imlach (w) - should never have been left out, best glovework around by far and had strong regional season with the bat
7) R.Chase (c) - will hope to prove worth in third & final test of the series
8 ) A.Joseph - good showing thus far, consistency needed going forward
9) S.Joseph - spearhead, talisman, one of the best talents around
10) J.Layne - along with Anderson, should debut. Tall, swings the ball and could offer fine compliment in the pace quartet & offers a bit with the bat
11) J.Seales - the new leader of the attack and potentially the next great West Indian fast bowler

I would remove Brathwaite, Campbell, Greaves & Phillip. Not closing the door on anybody but with the series gone, the selectors should be looking at other options, especially the promising Anderson, Imlach and Layne.

The arguments for not playing youngsters are of course, of consideration. However, the Australian batting is not great, so Layne at least should feature.

Would consider Campbell instead of Anderson and keep king at 4

King is not an opener - 4/5 at best! Louis can't handle Oz bowlers, but it's worth a try, given the circumstances. Campbell must play! Anderson and Imalch are worthy of introduction!

1. Campbell - deserves the series and must demonstrate an ability to curb his madness.
2. Anyone but Brathwaite
3. Carty - deserves the series to show that he can convert his ODI value to the Test arena.
4. King
5. Hope - he too deserves the series to show he is more than a ODI player.
6. Chase - he is the captain.
7. Imlach - unjustly dropped.
8. Josephs
9. S. Josephs
10. Phillip
11. Seales

I agree with your team. Why not let Hope keep the gloves and try Imlach in the opening spot? I would do so and bring in Warrican. We need some variety in the bowling. The Oz batsmen must be accustomed to all the right arm fast bowling by now.

I totally agree with your take. Campbell has to learn to value his wicket as his shot selection is God awful. King is new to Test cricket and with some work on his technique offers a ray of hope. At the very least we know he will not be out there blocking half volleys.

If the match is a day/night affair, then spinners are usually only part time options. Rather go with a young quick with height who swings it for this game - i.e. why I would select Layne. The Australians are not a weak batting side but the current West Indies attack has bowled them out four times, with the tourists only just passing 300 once.

Keacy Carty numbers...

After 61 FC matches his batting average is 26.9
After 7 tests his batting average is 16.8

It's clear the guy doesn't have what it takes to succeed in the longer version... if you can't score runs in FC cricket how will you do it at the test level?

If it was up to me this would be the XI for the final test

1. Campbell (based on the FC season he had, he deserves the entire series)
2. Louis (the dude averaged over 40+ in the last FC season)
3. Hopeless/Carty (doesn't really matter)
4. King
5. kevlon (65+ average in last FC season)
6. Imlach (wk) (averaged over 70 in the last FC season)
7. Specialist skipper
8. Shamar
9. Seales
10. Phillips
11. Layne (leading pacer in the last FC tournament)

Give Alzarri a rest since he is an all format player...
JamMack 7/8/25, 7:01:09 PM

debut: 11/13/02
3,248 runs

01. Campbell
02. Hope
03. Carty
04. King
05. Chase
06. Imlach (wk)
07. Greaves
08. Warrican
09. A. Joseph
10. S. Joseph
11. Seales

Although I do like Phillips as a cricketer, we need a legit spinner so he gets the axe.

Like your thinking but since it's a D/N I don't think that
will favor Warrican as extra spinner. He probably should have played in Grenada.

There are 5 Tests coming up ..2 in India in October and 3 in NZ in December.
I expect to see Louis,Anderson,Athanaze and Hodge (they don't seem to like this guy)
in the squads.
