There is no upside when a media entity is shuttered, especially one that
many regarded as very useful with its output.
Feel it for contributors. Hope things work out for them with alternatives.

So; No World Athletics broadcast from Tokyo come September...!

Are they owned by DigiCel..? or both owned by the same corporation..?

Espn2 will probably carry it

Or TVJ

Or CVM

TVJ free to air controls the Track and Field.
Only two weeks ago, a big foreign man in the business told me that Digihel is in serious trouble in the region. FLOW was always competition and Rush has already replaced much of Sports Programming.
I could care less after what they did to WI cricket.

TVJ rightly controls the free to air Track and field coverage. Thankfully.
Cricket is dying because the kids can’t see it. Nuff nuff peeps can’t afford cable

Heard the news followed by the Obligatory P R nonsense about serving the community more effectively.

translation- Competition stiff like a cement Board and beating yall like a step child...dont have enough financial muscle to compete with ESPN and other NETWORKS

sorry i find mariah rell irritating. they new guys are great other than her. Simon Croskill was excellent as well, but he was a longtime journalist

JoeGrine 2025-07-09 00:08:38

Never good when a media house goes under, and it's one less outlet available to a society to freely express itself.

Lance, Leighton, and Ricardo, I wish you the very best in finding green pastures.

Da-Vincy 2025-07-09 01:04:16

Sorry to hear. Sportsmaz Zone has good content.
Ricardo is excellent, as was George who he replaced.

I feel it too
cause i watch SportsMax
Hoping ESPN or Flow Sports pull up the slacI see ESPN has an around-the-wicket show after days play, talking about analytics, hoping it's not just for the Aussie series because they have something similar in Australia
And I know WI signed a contract with them. But it's the other sports I do hope, though. Flow picks it up, which they probably will, because they cover everything else. Would hope the Sportsmax zone, of course ,with another nam,e continues

u press de mute but did u stop watching? lol lol
I was like buh sometiems with her cause to me it almost always felt forced with her and not quite natural but sometimes she could have some good banter and bring up some really good points

positiveg 2025-07-09 19:34:17

In reply to Jumpstart

it was the set up everything was on point.
Really hope, which I don't doubt, that there will be an alternative soon enough
Because sports television still quite high in viewership eh, just ask TNT and Inside the NBA
Once you have the right mix of ppl and content ppl will watch more than the actual games themselves.

I am wondering if other sports channels, like ESPN (which definitely has the capital) and Flow, now owned by Liberty, which seems to have a far-reaching influence in global sports, just based on the TV rights, knew this was coming and already made plans?
I guess we'll know in the coming weeks when we start to hear things about new launches, or not.

positiveg 2025-07-09 19:34:36

Now I'm thinking about, it who will carry the CPL?

Went on to KLAS SportsFM recently and found out they've been renamed "Omega" (play gospel music until 1pm)

KLAS Sports radio as we knew it, went out of business a long time ago.

The last time I checked, Yard has about 16 radio stations and about 5 television stations serving about 2.5 million people, someting wang!

As I said there is no media house as professional as Sports Max in the region, certainly not in Trinidad where buffoonery seems to be in vogue. Their production was second to none and even though I found they could be vulture-like at times(but then all journalists are like that) I found their analysis to be very fair and professional. This is not a good week at all for Caribbean media

voiceofreason 2025-07-11 02:31:57

I like Sportsmax as they had good local content mixed in with the international but in a small market like the Caribbean with competition from ESPN, Flow Sports and a multitude of sporting media options it was always going to be tough to maintain or increase market share. I n addition to this their parent Company Digicel is already in financial trouble so perhaps this is part of the restructuring process.

I hate to see people lose jobs and that is the sad reality.

Besar 2025-07-12 11:23:34

A sad loss to the sports delivery in the region. I looked forward to their Sportsman Zone, especially their track and field and cricket analyses. I enjoyed the presentations all the personalities on the cast, and the uniqueness that each brought to the fore. Just like the West Indian commentators at cricket games, it was the variety in West Indianess, and I always enjoy all, male and female. I could only hope, and do believe that greener pastures await the younger ones. They were a great bunch. But, in this world today, one can argue, that just as how Pooran or Narine has the right to maximize their returns, just the same Digicel has that right too. So, it is odd that we defend the rights of the players to walk away from West indies cricket whenever they wish, but can't forgive Digicel for doing same with their money. i will miss Sportsmax.
