Subject: Resignation from Head Coach/Chief Selector Position
Dear Members of Cricket West Indies,
It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation from my position as Head Coach/Chief Selector/All Formats of the West Indies Men’s Team, effective immediately.
The recent events at Sabina Park have weighed heavily on me—professionally and personally. As someone who has dedicated my life to uplifting West Indies cricket, first as a player and now as a mentor and coach, I have always believed in holding ourselves to the highest standards—on the field, in preparation, and in conduct.
The outcome and fallout of the Sabina Park debacle were unacceptable. While I accept that in sport, results will always vary, what unfolded went beyond the boundaries of performance. It spoke to a deeper need for reflection, accountability, and change. As the head of this team, I must take responsibility. Our fans, our players, and our legacy deserve better.
This decision has not been made lightly. I’ve had the immense privilege of serving West Indies cricket, and I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to have helped nurture and shape the next generation of Caribbean talent. I will always stand ready to support this great institution in whatever capacity I can, but at this moment, stepping aside is the right and honourable thing to do.
I am confident that with honest introspection and collective will, West Indies cricket will rise again. The spirit of this region is resilient, and so is its cricketing soul.
Thank you for your trust and support during my tenure. I leave with pride, humility, and enduring hope.
With respect,
Dungheap Darren
