HEADLINE: CWI President Says Criticism of Sammy is ‘Because He’s St. Lucian’

CaribbeanCricket.com Jul 16, 2025, 2:51:08 PM

President of Cricket West Indies, Dr. Kishore Shallow, has suggested that Head Coach Daren Sammy is facing such intense criticism largely because he is St. Lucian.

Speaking on Starcom Network’s Mason & Guests cricket programme, Dr. Shallow addressed calls from West Indies legend Carl Hooper, host Andrew Mason, and others, who have argued that Sammy should be removed after his very first series in charge. This follows the Windies’ 3-0 defeat to Australia and their record-low team score of just 27.

Dr. Shallow insists that the calls for Sammy’s dismissal are unjustified.

What an idiotic comment!

Incompetence does not carry a passport

As it has been said, nationalism is the last refuge of scoundrels. Better players and manager before Sammy have been criticized without regard to their passport

Sammy has been rightly held accountable because this debacle occurred under his watch and with him having virtually monopolistic control of all aspect of the composition of the team. He is being rightly criticized because he is perceived to be unqualified for the job which many believed he got only because of nepotism

This man is an idiot. No wonder our cricket has been carried lower, even though we all believed that this was not possible.

Does Dr. Shallow believe 27 all out is acceptable?

Time for the President to step aside as well.

Had WI beaten Australia they would be singing Sammy's praises. Now that we lost and lost disgraceful, nobody is to criticize Sammy. It cannot be that he takes all the praise but avoids all the criticism. He blundered by playing Warrican. He also blundered by discarding the entire middle order. He has to stand by his decisions and also accept the criticisms in the same way he would have accepted the praise.

Dr Shallow is really living up to his name with his shallow mind. To say the reason for calls for the dismissal of Sammy are unjustified and because he is Lucian is pure crap and shallowness. We lost the 3 game series 3/0 and never batted a session in the 2 innings; we got bowled out for 27 in 14.3 overs and then dropped over 12 catches in the series. Shouldn’t somebody, especially Sammy be sacked? I guess you too Mr Shallow should also be sacked man

The good doctor is talking out of his… Many before Scammy was criticize. The difference with scamming is way under qualified for job he undertook. he has zero acumen that would remotely considered him to fill the positions he holds…

Sammy is head coach, and sole selector. WI got loss 3-0 and were bowled out for 27. Whatever criticism Sammy gets his deserved. And seeing that he has multiple roles he gets criticism here for his coaching and selection.

Dr. Shallow needs to see a doctor, a psychiatrist for that matter if he feels that Sammy should not be criticized for WI losing 3-0 and being bowled out for 27.

No one is criticizing Sammy because he is St. Lucian, he is being criticized based on his results.

Those results don't warrant criticism they warrant dismissal.

Sammy has been making decisions that are questionable for a while now.

On a side note, I am not in favour of a sole selector, I rather a panel.

Sammy should not be sacked....let him complete 2025...5 more tests......15 ODIs....World Cup 2026....some good support staff needed.... specially a proper batting coach and a certified coach./ Consultant...Sammy remains man- manager head coach.....

If you ever heard the term “Small Island Mentality” and wondered what it means take the words of the CWI President as Exhibit A…..

It’s a chronic case of inferiority complex….it must suck to perpetually live in the shadows and on the periphery of irrelevance ….

Projection can be so shallow. Sammy got his first promotion with two Lucians at the helm. He was unqualified then and now.

All you not easy nou. In other words we seeing early signs of danger and instead of correcting it now you implying we should wait until it becomes a disaster? Sammy was white ball coach and Coley was red ball coach. We were heading in the right direction especially in test with huge wins against same Australians then Pakistan. Coley somehow was sacked for Sammy and Sammy becomes head coach and only selector. He immediately replaced the entire batting lineup that were slowly bringing back hope and success with a lineup that failed us before only to be bowled out for our lowest score of 27, and Sammy has not taken on himself to resign? Only in West Indies boy

If 27 and a whitewash are not already a disaster, what is the bottom?

Why summon the legends and convene a meeting, is this to give Sammy an award?

lol lol lol

Not even a cricket magician can solve West Indies cricket problem.

Our seriously flawed system is churning out seriously flawed cricketers. The basics of cricket need to be imparted from very, very early and need more work over an entire career.

We don't need to invent the wheel here. It has been recommended that academies be established in all the territories led by trained coaches...not eat a food coaches. Further, the incentive system for test cricket needs to be overhauled.

The current administrators cannot identify the systemic problems and therefore are not in a position to solve them.

All, I repeat all those who manage our cricket must stand down...make way for persons who can identify the problems, develop a stratregic plan, find the resources to implement the plan, partner with various stakeholders, constantly evaluate the outputs arising out of the plan and make adjustments where necessary.
This is not rocket science but currently we lack the human resource capacity to move our cricket forward.

Btw, Darren Sammy bit off more than he could chew.

Bruh, this constant passive aggressive/bully behaviour towards Darren Sammy and Bajans is not mentally healthy. Please seek some help.

Now please don't respond to this post...just seek help.

BTW, I rather suspect this is the only point picked up from my post above.

Drapsey Jul 17, 2025, 9:59:10 AM

Unnuh give $ammy a break, he's just a victim(/product) of the Peter Principle, which opines that one is promoted to their level of incompetence.

The fault lies with everyone else but him.

reverting to pseudo-psychology does not change the fact that Darren Sammy was not a regular member of the test team when he was selected as skipper. if he was good enough, he'd have been been a sure pick for every test. sammy was the first RTN if you look at stats

level of incompetence.

don't tell courtesy sammy was/is incompetent

...Btw, Darren Sammy bit off more than he could chew.

What does this mean?

Btw, allyuh have never seen me here showering praises on Darren Sammy.

Allyuh must get it in your thick skulls that West Indies cricket is not structured to allow consistent good performances at the test level.

No amount of regurgitation of stalwarts will change this until we pursue wholesome changes.

you know....ideally until allyuh region produce a great cricketer, your influence on WI cricket should be limited. Clearly the Windward Islands component of the Combined Islands project has largely been a failure

We're forced into admitting though that whatever deficiencies they have in terms of cricket play(ing), are 'atoned' for in their talkability.

Yes, they do talk a good talk.

T&TCB has crumbled since his ascension to president.

Years of financial allegations, and they fired the CA who brought it to police attention.shock
