Misguided beliefs

that hinder our ability to make any progress. One of them is the constant decrying of the CWI, formerly WICB with all kinds of demeaning descriptions. We blame them for all the problems in West indies cricket. When one reads the material on this forum, and others out there, one would believe that this Cricket board has this huge stockpile of money from which they are depriving the cricketers. The constant call to get rid of the board, and use the savings from the high paying officials to pay the cricketers, and to finance grass root cricket. It is so ludicrous to read these things, and disappointed at those who push that kind of narrative. People should think before expressing filth. But what is the truth, even with only realistic thought?

It does not matter who runs West Indies cricket, there would never be any resources to enable us to offer remuneration anywhere close to many of the places we love to compare with. it will never happen, and so we must never use that as an excuse to incite our players into confrontation with the Board. Our players must be conscious that their Boards can't pay them the sums like Australia, India, England, new Zealand etc. pay their players. Maybe, education to get them to the point where they could accept their roles beyond mere cash.

When we get rid of the CWI and all the high paid officials, who will manage cricket in the region? And, are they going to do it for free? One common, nonsensical call is to get rid of the Board and let the cricketers run cricket. Who are the cricketers to run things, and what are their qualifications? Do they have the required expertise to run the various aspects of the cricket, and if they do, are they going to do it for free. We make it appear as though it is a sin for an honest West Indian boy or girl who went to school and gained certification in Law, Management, Accounting, etc., has no right to work in the Cricketing industry. As we attempt to single out these people for blame, we actually are supporting discrimination. i am certain that Philo Wallace would never give legal advice for free just to make more money available to pay cricketers. We throw out these empty shells there and we never think about the nonsense. Some of us believe that if we criticize the Board, and defend the players, that somehow, we are progressive. We have to be realistic in our utterances.

I am not saying that the Board is always correct or perfect, but we need people to manage cricket in the region. It does not matter how much changes in structure we make, or how much we charge the name, we would never have the resources to compete in pay with our rival; NEVER. We want efficiency on the Board, but we should not tomfool our own selves, and these less adept players that there is this huge money chest that somebody is hiding from them. That is not true.

A lot of folks like to talk about grassroots, and taking cricket back to the grassroots. If you do not know what the grassroots is, you can't take cricket there. One has to first, understand what is the grassroots. It is true that for anything to prosper, it must be fed from the grassroots, whether culture, sports, whatever. But, most of us have failed to play our role in maintaining the grassroot, and ensuring its survival, and that is why we are where we are today. That is a story in itself, and you'll be shocked that you thought that you understood the grassroots.

Disagree

Instead of the petty squabbling, or flying around the world wasting money, ‘the Board’ could engage with the ICC- after all they ARE members- and do something about it.

Where is the equipment- you don’t need to be India for that
Where is the intensive camp- you don’t need to be England for that
Where is the communication and engagement- anyone can do that

The ‘Board’ is the problem and unfortunately they hold the keys to the solutions

Maybe, education to get them (our players) to the point where they could accept their roles beyond mere cash.

So in other words, it's okay for CWI officials to be highly paid but our players shouldn't worry about money.

Individuals on the board present themselves as having the solutions to the problems prior to getting on the board, once they get there, they start telling us it is not the board.

You are not wholly wrong but the real job of the board is to find answers.. If the day reach where you think you don't have the answers then you must pass the torch. Where there is a will there is a way; and this saying underlies West Indian efforts and success.
