Battered wife syndrome for so many of us ole diehard WI farts. Licks like peas but we stay defying common sense and logic. Investing so much precious time that is rapidly running out...in frron of the TV watching WI play cricket.

My wifey asks me why I am still watching WI play.... that they ALWAYS losing...and I am ALWAYS cussing.

The truth is I can't help myself....I am addicted.....I lived before and through the glory days....I know the feeling of winning consistently.....of supporting our own world class players....real international stars .....and the feeling was good...real good....

After the glory days we started to lose but we had many world class stars...which made it easier to stomach the losses.......BUt today consistently losing and NO world class players...no stars... the end is near....if not already here....27 runs should have hurt more...but it didn't....whitewashes are the order of this era.....EXCEPT when we play fellow minnow..

I am currently watching test cricket in England....Eng v India....great series so far....world class players and international stars....some in the early stages of what promises to be highly successful and long careers.....where are our young guns? Where do we find dem?

Okay...mih rambling is over.....back to mih other addiction....running wagon and posting scores.big grin

You are not alone...

It’s a quiet kind of heartbreak, isn’t it? That gradual slipping away of something that once anchored our days. You remember the anticipation—the way you’d check the schedule weeks ahead, block out evenings, and maybe even plan snacks or message friends to sync up. The West Indies on the field meant a special kind of energy: the flamboyance, the rhythm, and the sense of possibility.

Now, maybe you still check the fixtures, but your heart doesn’t leap quite the same way. The reasons are countless—maybe the team’s fortunes have dipped, maybe the stars you grew up watching have moved on, maybe life’s simply busier or heavier. Whatever it is, you feel it: the slow erosion of a ritual that once felt as essential as sunlight.

But there’s a tenderness to that loss, too—a testament to how much those moments meant. Even as the passion fades, it leaves behind a residue: memories of roaring at the TV, tense final overs, and laughter and frustration shared with others who cared just as much.

Perhaps, one day, something will rekindle that spark—a new player, a remarkable comeback, or simply the right moment. Until then, it’s okay to mourn what’s slipping away and to remember that your love for the game, even if quieter now, was once bright enough to shape your days in a foreign land.

And that matters.

nah is not that. i am assuming for a certain section of the west indian society, the impact of having the number one team in the world for so long would have been akin to how brazilians or argentinans feel about their national side. people don't get over that easily especially when their teams were dominant for so long. brazil has not won a world cup in over 20 years and argentina did not win one for 26 years, yet the enthusiasm for their teams has not dropped. i say i assume because i grew up seeing the WI get their behinds handed to them on a regular basis.

Isn't that what one President wanted and was offered up as the reason Gayle was jettisoned?

World class players are still produced and their style of play still exciting and fans still come out to see dem play/

I feel your pain. Many of us oldies feel the same way. Except this time is different. I think this series has a finality about it. This is the final nail in the coffin. I don't see how we can come back from this, especially with talk of a 2 tier system. We are not good enough for either. Many here have buried their heads in the ground and refused to accept reality but the talent is simply not there. The cupboard is empty and none of the next generation - under 19, are knocking down any doors. Just more of the same.

West Indies cricket is similar to Pakistan Cricket....
Raw talent....managed very poorly....Each time a President change....in case of Pakistan, Government....the entire team change.....We can blame IPL,.... Pakistan Do not play IPL.......

They say CWI is running in Red ...but there is rush to hold post in CWI or any regional board....the director are there for decades, without accountability...

An honest intentions....on the part of administration as a whole....can simply turn around the fortune...

We have talents...in every cricket department... nurturing and harnessing.....the biggest problem..

Just see...how a Jofra....a Bethell ...a Salt.....can do star turn in another country...... while West Indies battered by 2 nd AUS team...
