The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) will convene a crucial board meeting today to determine whether Rudolph Speid will be appointed as assistant to Head Coach Steve McClaren or serve in an advisory capacity with the Jamaica senior men’s team.

Speid, who is currently the sporting director of reigning Jamaica Premier League champions Cavalier FC, also serves as chairman of the JFF technical committee.

I smell a conflict of interest!

Rudolph Speid is now Technical Advisor, still heads the JFF Technical Committee, owns Cavaliers FC, AND will be in the Reggae Boyz dressing room advising McClaren. How is this not a blatant conflict of interest? Where was the open recruitment? What exactly has Speid achieved at the senior international level to earn this influence? This looks less like building a World Cup team and more like tightening control over the program. We need transparency, not backdoor appointments. Fans deserve answers, not recycled power plays.

He is the best man for those who are either against UK born Jamaicans in the team or a quota on them. They will have their wish with Speid in control. The JFF sees this Caribbean group as an easy group to qualify from. They underestimate Curacao and their Dutch heritage laden team and Trinidad at their peril.

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has confirmed that Rudolph Speid, Chairman of the JFF Technical Committee, has been appointed Technical Advisor to the Reggae Boyz for the remainder of the 2026 CONCACAF FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Speid, who has enjoyed remarkable success with Cavalier F.C.—winning the Jamaica Premier League titles in 2021, 2024, and 2025, as well as the 2024 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup—will bring his extensive technical expertise to the national setup in a key advisory role.

According to the JFF, Speid will be responsible for delivering detailed opponent analysis and offering technical insights to bolster the team’s preparation and match strategy, particularly for upcoming fixtures against Bermuda, Curaçao, and Trinidad and Tobago.

JFF President Michael Ricketts welcomed the appointment, noting that it came after discussions with Head Coach Steve McClaren.

1. Speid is part of the group that hired the wholly incompetent Steve McLaren who is (a) past his sell-by date (b) enjoying the equivalent of a golden parachute handed to him by the JFF.

2. McLaren thus, has no reason to rock the JFF boat; he goes with the flow.

3. Spied has now propelled himself to the next in line for the coaching gig, which could come as early as October. The possibility of being the first Jamaican coach to bring a team to the men's World Cup must be looking real good to Speid at the moment.

4. If Cavaliers (the Speid owned team) can have the very marginal forward "Busy" Atkinson starting at midfield during a Gold Cup match, can we look forward to more Cavaliers players being unjustly showcased in the national team?
