According to the Barbados Nation Newspaper, there are 3 changes. Johnson Charles, Athanaze, Shamar Joseph is in the squad. Alzari is rested and King and Hetmyer are out injured

Not for tis move at all as Johnson Charles (like Evin Lewis and Russell) is past his prime. Now would have been a good time to blood another opener. Too much recycling. What has Kyle Mayers done to not get selected? He bowls medium pace swing too which could be handy on his day. Would have been a better pick.

Good to see Aljo get a rest.

I cannot believe they will recycle Charles instead of trying to invest in a younger player. I know that the cupboard is pretty bare but Charles' performance does not even give a meal

Ok. This would all be a non issue with CWI simply naming the squad in advance for this series in a reasonable time frame. At least right after the Oz series had concluded if not earlier

Really poor on their part and just adds to the perception and reality that WI cricket is fucked

Both King and Hetty got injured in the last game. King went after a ball fieldign and you could see he had trouble geting back up. Came off the field so did Hetty.

This is why WI cricket has been in decline for decades, no forward thinking. In the last " Breakout " tournament, Kofi James made 3 fifties as an opener for the Leewards, why couldn't he be taken? Shaqkere Parris is one of the emerging players from the Academy team that did play in the CPL last season and had some success, why couldn't he be taken? Charles had some good scores for the WI, but it is time to prepare for the future.

This is what I think the “rationale” is for Charles’ selection

Sammy knows he’s under tremendous pressure and scrutiny

He desperately needs a WIN

In such a scenario, who would you go to?

A rookie?

Or someone who you trust and has come through for you in the past?

It’s likely also why Carty played over Jewel Andrew in the 5th T20I vs Oz, even though Jewel was in the original squad and Carty was only called up when Lewis had to withdraw due to injury.

Not disputing this.

Little odd though that Mayers just played MLC for the Seattle Orcas. Their last match was July 5 in which Mayers top scored with 35.

Maybe his visa has since expired.

Or maybe Mayers needs a separate visa for Florida
