Lest we forget, it was emancipation in name only. They left us bare, with nothing in return for the centuries of free labour under the most barbarous conditions. They compensated our enslavers, but the enslaved got nothing. Instead, to ensure that we remained in perpetual slavery, they brought competition for us just to ensure that our bargaining power was neutralized. We had to fight for everything under the sun, even for those who disparage us at a whimper. When we win, they win as well, but they would turn on us in a flash. They are ever willing to join all against us, that is, until they are in trouble.

Today, if you see blood flowing from the walls of the major cities of western world, it is the blood of tears of the African slaves. They made us work, we toiled day and night in the sun, no pay. They destroyed our families, and imposed their own languages and cultures on us. We were mere chattels, and we had to carry their European names. Today, those of us who could afford it have to pay monumental sums to trace back our roots. Today is a day for reflection, especially those who are quick to attack black folks if it appears that they can't win an election. Just remember, every struggle, and every benefit that you enjoy today, from slavery to now, the core of those struggles were the former ex-slaves. From Port of Spain to Cuba and Brazil to London, Boston, Toronto, Paris etc. . Today was the day the British gave us up after it became too expensive for them to continue to enslave us. they called it Emancipation.

Too many of us do not understand the importance of freedom
or what it took to achieve it.
Nice post

Boom.

Sadly, there are too many descendants of slaves and former slaves that have bought into a conflation strategy .. fueling an agenda to 'restore' the power structure. It is the saddest thing I have witnessed in my entire life. People who I thought were intelligent and morally strong...friends even... turned out to be myopic, shallow and selfish.

Again, sadly I have re-evaluated friendships over what people support.
