T&T CoP reports sharp drop in murders in 2025
COMMISSIONER of Police Allister Guevarro notes a noticeable decline in murders across Trinidad and Tobago in 2025 compared to 2020 and 2022-2024.“For the year 2025, according to provisional data from the Crime and Problem Analysis Branch, 231 murders have been recorded between the close of January and the fourth of August of this year.“This figure represents a significant decrease when compared to the same period in preceding years. It is a 14.8% reduction when compared to 2020 when there were 271 homicides for the comparable period,” he said.
He said the downward trend reflects the evolution of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), which has increased its use of intelligence-led policing, expanded community patrols, and implemented targeted interventions in high-risk zones.
Addressing the state of emergency (SoE) implemented on July 18, Guevarro clarified that the measure was not intended to address homicide rates but to respond to a specific and credible threat to national security.
