I remember listening to the 75/76 tour to Australia, that Lille and Thompson were signed up for murder...damn it was chilling. We fought back with Still green Andy Roberts and a young Michael Holding but it was only gonna be one winner.

He bowled Yagga Rowe 1st ball for duck...Yagga on return to the pavilion announced that even God couldn't see that ball from Thommo..

That story got embellished, Yagga actually said "Not even God could play dat." And it was a Knicks off caught behind. I think he said the same thing regarding getting out to Was it Bruce Taylor in the 1st innings of the test after his debut. If memory is correct it was in Bim. Later in the series he got injured.

Heard a story at a Senior Cup game at Melbourne. It goes, Viv is going out and in passing Yagga coming in Viv asks, How is it out there? Yagga rubbing his ribs says bway Thommo fast! Viv later said "Imagine hearing that from your hero when the next thing you hear when taking guard is "Kill Lille kill, kill, kill, kill!

Thommo was a terror dat 75/76 series. And de forkah said afterward that he used to deliberately overstep at times to intimidate further.

As if he needed to do that.

Makes Freddo’s 169 at Perth maybe one of the most remarkable in test cricket history. That was reputed to be the fastest wicket in world cricket at the time.

Listened every ball and here's why Freddo's and Lloyd's tons were great. Greenidge was dropped to protect him in the same way Sars was sent home.
No one wanted to open, Julien went out with Freddo and got his finger broken, Kalli top-edged into his nose and retired bloodied (still came back out in his "Kalli The Happy Hooker Undershir). Lloyd got hit so those two tons at s/r close to today's white ball were special. We scored 300+ many times and still lost.

You sure about that, Thompson bowling Rowe for a duck? On that tour Rowe made 1 duck in 11 innings. That duck to Thompson shows ..caught IM Chappeii.
Probably you are mistaking Rowe being bowled with a no ball which he followed up with a coverdrive in the words of Cozier ' majestic shot". Both Rowe and Kallicharan scored 100s. That was the 1st Test second inning.

Yep, stories get embellished over the years.
1st innings 1st test WI was in shambles, a lanky 22yo fastbowler joined Deryk Murray and did some repair. Mike Anthony Holding's 30odd was decorated with some glorious 4's. 2nd innings after Greenidge went for spit he was sentbout as night-watchman and was roughed up. Seeing Kalli's and Rowe's back to the wall fightback dem men started overstepping. When WI won the 2ndbthe beefing increased leading to Mikey crying in the 3rd

As does the fastest EVER, B.P. Patterson - and the sight of that delivery stride foot facing you as a batsman...must have been truly chilling...

Patrick Patterson's slower ball must have been 95mph lol

'Nother story I heard suppoedly credited to The Late Great Tony Becca. If accurate then Viv is correct that tour "made" him! 5th test Freddo gets out early and Yagga joins Viv. After Viv blazes couple 4's off Thommo they meet in the middle for a particularly long chat. When Yagga goes in Tony asks what that was about l. Viv- Thommo really fast but he's just fast seems he wants to hit me but "is im or mi today" Viv's scores thereafter 107, 54, 98 all at S/R that would make TODAY'S ODI big bats proud!

Correct...I was a mere 7 yrs old and vacationing in England then...as I got older I learnt to appreciate how important this particular series shaped not just VIV but most of our lads- That Baptism created the FYAH in Babylon.

They were playing for all of us-.

I do believe that most of our lads still do...not all but most.

The truth is self evident.

M. A. Holding became a real force 'Bina '76
With Andy 9ut injured. England '76 and next two decades...ah well.
