True. Also, Basil Williams made 100 in that game. It was the first time I saw Sylvester Clarke and he remains to this day the most hostile faster I’ve ever seen in my life.
Also, I never saw anyone fielded in the slips like Simpson. He did not rest his hand on his knees. He actually squatted like you are, pardon the expression, relieving yourself in the backdam. Remember backdam days bwoi… bush, cooking, and catching fire red.

1965 at Bourda was my first test match....I was 9
My father had dis big ass Phillips radio on and we were listening to commentary coming from Bourda...Kanhai was tearing tail....my Oldman announced to his 4 sons [youngest bro was only 5] ....boys we are going to Bourda tomorrow....and we will see Kanhai make his hundred....well excitement galore....Early morning old lady prepared lunch for us...at 7.00 am we jumped into the Vauxhaul car and headed to Bourda about 15 mins away....the lines were already long.....we entered North Stand [School Boy stand] .... the buses from Berbice already parked outside
Well de Babu only added 1 run to his overnight 88* before fast bowler Neil Hawke uprooted his off stump.....Bourda went silent.
15 mins later Berbice busses were pulling off from outside Bourda on North Rd....back to Berbice berbice...babu was outbig grin

But it was great day at Bourda....saw Butcher, Nurse and Sobers bat....later in de day saw de greats Wes Hall, Sobers and Gibbs bowl

Damn I envy you, bro. My uncles came down from Berbice and stayed by us leaving five in the morning for the game. I was too young to go, but I have heard about that Neil Hawke delivery over the years. I also heard that the crowd booed Rohan on his way back to the pavilion. It must’ve really hurt him because many years later, I’ve heard him mention it

That’s the general consensus, my brother. In my playing days, I fielded first slip. To this day, I never could understand how he was able to take those catches from his starting position.

Lawry and Simpson best opening pair before Greenidge and Haynes

Bill Lawry and Bob Simpson set an Australian Test record for the first wicket with a partnership of 382 runs against the West Indies in Bridgetown, Barbados, on May 6, 1965, and they were the first opening duo in Test cricket history to both score double centuries in the same innings

Listened to dat on radio....didn't appreciate it in those days....as a young kid 'I hated' dem

I would’ve loved to see Keith Miller. In my humble opinion he is the greatest allrounder, of course not mentioning Sir Gary. Whenever I discuss allrounders, I never mention his name because there is Sir Gary, then daylight, then #2.
