Narine: New energy for TKR
The five-time champions, who have not lifted the trophy since their dominant 2020 campaign, made notable moves at the June 2025 CPL draft. Among them was the acquisition of left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir, one of the league’s most consistent and successful bowlers, and off-spinner Usman Tariq. The team also welcomes back Darren Bravo, a stalwart of the franchise in the past. He is added to a line-up already featuring perennial match-winners Nicholas Pooran, Narine himself, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard.
Narine also hailed the CPL’s commitment to providing opportunities for emerging players, describing it as an important part of the tournament’s long-term value.Speaking at the Unit Trust Corporation headquarters during the announcement of a new partnership between the UTC and the Knight Riders—which will include sponsoring the Primary Schools Cricket League—Narine said the squad’s blend of experience and youth gave them reason to believe.UTC’s executive director, Nigel Edwards, highlighted the shared vision between the financial institution and the Knight Riders in supporting grassroots cricket.
“I think it’s a good gesture—it’s a good little learning process. We have a lot of old (senior) and intelligent guys in the game, so it’s a learning process for them and they could obviously build off of that. Hopefully it is a stepping stone for their career.” With their roster strengthened and a new partnership aimed at inspiring the next generation, the Knight Riders will be hoping that 2025 is the year their mix of seasoned champions and hungry newcomers delivers a record-breaking sixth CPL crown.
