Rain in de air....covers on...covers off

18:35 Local Time, 22:35 GMT, 4:05 IST:
The covers are on at present. From the live visuals, it appears that there was a lot of rain earlier. There's standing water on the covers as well.

The toss has been delayed.

The umpires are out for another inspection. A few areas on the outfield still appear to be soft. The groundstaff is using the blower to dry out the concerned areas on the pitch.

9:14 pm The umpires are out there, along with the team captains. In a discussion with the umpires, Wiese points to a landing spot on the popping crease from one of the ends. Next inspection is at 9:35 pm.

Anything since?

9:45 pm The umpires, captains, and ground staff are all still out there. They're in contact with some areas of the pitch that appear to be damp right now. There is still no official word, but it appears that there will be further delays. The next official pitch inspection is at 10 pm.

This one done.

The umpires are out there once more. There's a leaf blower in operation over the damp patch that's of concern on the pitch. It's on the fuller length at one end. Time is quickly running out. The umpires now walk up to the captains, explain the situation and there are handshakes between all of them. That can only mean one thing. The match has been called off.

Parts of the pitch getting wet meant that this match had no chance of getting underway, even after rain had stopped. Points will be shared between the two teams. That's all from us here. Until next time, it's goodbye.

What kind of shabby ground work is that? People pay the money and you cannot cover a pitch properly?
