Cricket West Indies (CWI) is pleased to announce the West Indies Men's Under 19 team that will host their Sri Lankan counterparts in a seven-match Youth ODI series from 25 August to 16 September, in Antigua.

The highly anticipated series will showcase the Caribbean's most promising cricket talent as Barbadian Joshua Dorne leads the squad against Sri Lanka at two of the island’s premier venues.

The opening four matches will take place at Coolidge Cricket Ground and the series will conclude at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

Dorne, a dynamic batsman, recently led his countrymen to the Rising Stars Under-19 title while earning MVP honours along the way with a tournament-high 328 runs.

He leads a well-balanced squad featuring a unique blend of batting firepower and bowling skill, comprised of the best performers from the recently concluded regional Under-19 tournament.

Good stuff
wishing the youths well. Hope they are all able to garner some good enough match practice and more that will help them to be successful in next year's world cup

What is wrong with listing the islands the players are from? Surely it cannot be to avoid insularity as CWI seems to be cloaked in that.

You can pretty much guess the composition of the squad. It’s pretty consistent with previous squads

The composition of the squad is less of an issue.

The bigger issue for me is that we hardly, if ever, play red ball cricket at this level.

You see endless comments from so many people…..cricketers, ex cricketers, management, media, fans etc insisting that playing FC cricket is required to succeed in any format of the game to “learn the fundamentals of the game”.

So let’s say that is a fact.

How come then are nearly all of the youth tournaments played in the white ball format?

All the world cups are played in white ball.

The world test championship is a very very recent creation that does not even remotely filter down to the youth level.

Nearly all of the reciprocal tours at U19 level are played in the white ball format.

But all of the people previously mentioned constantly bitch and complain about needing to play FC cricket.

And look what powers that be come up with? Proudly announcing yet another white ball series.
