Sometime ago, I saw a clip of Sir Gary standing behind the nets watching BCL. He shouted to him, Watch the ball.
The same was said to my Antiguan brother and me by Sir Everton Decourcey Weekes about facing bowlers.
He watched the rotation of the ball while it was in the air; not only would he know the turn, but he could also get to the pitch of the delivery or get on the back foot.
This was told to me in 1975.
I once saw a fielding team applaud a stroke Sir Everton played on a rain-affected wicket, Denis Atkinson, who was one of Barbados' local greats, that man could move the ball, he was bowling with an Umbrella field, imagining doing the split to a delivery, your left leg pointing down the field and your right backward, the ball beating the two fielders in legslip, who could only stand and appaud.
This is the type of batsmanship I saw as a youngster.
