The Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) has announced that the national declaration of election results is anticipated on the morning of September 4th, following the completion of district declarations by the evening of September 3rd.
In the final press briefing before today’s elections Chief Elections Officer (CEO) Vishnu Persaud confirmed the timeline, stating, “Once we have the district declaration in place for all the districts by the evening of the 3rd and all of those declarations get to me by the morning of the 4th; the national declaration, the Commission should be able to make that because I will immediately proceed to put together the results of the district. I will immediately come up with those national declaration results.”
Gecom’s Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward provided a breakdown of election readiness. A total of 757,690 registered voters across the nation’s 10 administrative regions are eligible to cast their ballots. To facilitate voting, 2,790 polling stations will be operational.
