CPL overseas player quality down?

Seems very much that way to me. Apart from David and Rizwan most of the overseas players appear to retired internationals or players very peripheral to their national teams. Very frustrating to seem emerging talent kept out for them. I think we need to revert to limiting the number of overseas players to 4 and making more provision for young players to be included in the 11

I know its a private tournament but they are using our taxpayers' facilities. Some pressure can surely brought to bear. It is also questionable why so may of the overseas players who dont' captain their national team find themselves in captaincy positions for their franchise.

The only pressure that can be brought to bear, is that our players will be denied opportunities to play in the overseas leagues.
You all have to realize the this T20 business is like and exchange program.

I very much understand why the quality is down. I am saying that if you cant find 5 solid overseas players, given the tight schedule, then limit the number in the 11 to 4. The fluff padding notonly deprives youngsters of a chance to showcase themselves, it suppresses enjoyment of the tournament. Who really wants to see Van der Duessen or Hassan take up space. The overseas players should be helpimg to raise the profile of the tournament so it can compete for air time....not lower it so that we attract even lesser quality the next season

West Indian “fans” really naive yes.

Think CPL is sustainable without the same foreign and older talent?

Of the top 10 t20 franchise cricket leagues, CPL remuneration is # 9 ahead only of the Lanka League

Major League cricket, UAE, Big Bash, SA20, The Hundred etc……not to mention IPL, all pay more…..in most cases, significantly more.

Despite good turnout to matches in the region, particularly in Trinidad and Guyana, the region as a whole is a TINY market.

Add to that the sheer volume of cricket being played, and it explains why you’re only going to get older, experienced, international players who are otherwise unoccupied.

And you need those players to retain international viewership.

Nobody tunin in to watch Bedaisee, Gaston, Sampson, Simmons, Kofi James, Mackenzie, Ackeem Auguste, and whoever else you call.

Hell…..dey eh exactly tunin in to watch Brandon King and Roston Chase needah.

That’s just the reality.

The League NEEDS those so called geriatrics…..even if they not performing…..far more than the “geriatrics” need the league, just to remain financially viable.
