This confirms my earlier prediction about CWI current and future unsustainable financial situation, and cannot be relied upon for future careers for young cricketers. Hence, all Regional Teams must now start to plan their own cricket futures, by applying for ICC Associate status and going it alone, not a joke anymore, now a reality, based on the following report.

“In a move which is expected to help save the organisation money in the long-run, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said it will be reducing the number of tournaments and consequently the number of teams participating in regional competitions for the 2025/26 season.


At CWI's quarterly press conference in Antigua on October 1, CWI president Dr Kishore Shallow described the cricket body's financial standing as a chronic one, and he, CWI CEO Chris Dehring and director of cricket Miles Bascombe said the board is doing its best to work alongside regional and international partners to ensure a boost in revenue while maintaining the vision of CWI's strategic plan for 2024-2027.”

To become an ICC Associate Member, a national cricket governing body must demonstrate that cricket is well-established and organized in their country, meeting specific requirements for structured competitions with a minimum number of senior and junior teams (including an Under-19 level), and playing according to the ICC's Laws of Cricket. New members are elected by the ICC based on these objective criteria, filling the current two-tier hierarchy of Full and Associate Members.

Key Requirements
National Governing Body: The applicant must be the recognized governing body for cricket in its country or a geographical area.

Established Cricket: Cricket must be firmly established and organized within the country.

Structured Competitions:
Senior Teams: A minimum of 16 senior teams must be competing in structured competitions. Evidence, such as draws and tables, must be provided to show this has been happening for at least one year.

Junior Teams: A minimum of 16 junior teams must participate in structured competitions.

U/19 Team: At least one of these junior competitions must involve a minimum of four Under-17, Under-18, or Under-19 teams to allow for the selection of a national Under-19 team meeting ICC eligibility criteria.
Adherence to Laws: Cricket within the applicant's country must be played in accordance with the Laws of Cricket.

Membership Structure: New members are elected to the Associate level, with the possibility of promotion to Full Member status based on ongoing performance in major ICC tournaments.

Process
The application is reviewed by the ICC's Membership Committee, which assesses requests against objective criteria.

Jamaica has shown less and less appetite for cricket with the non-participation in the CPL or WC. I am not saying this to throw shade on the decision because I believe they were the winners by avoiding the financial pitfall of the World Cup.

Yard economy is doing well and cricket is not making money.
Barbados cannot afford it. Or any of the other small islands.

Guyana is the only one I can see going it alone. And I am all for that. Everyone in here can become an honorary muddie.
